Too many dead spots? The problem isn't the amount of flow (I get a ton from the return nozzles), its the distribution
How do you have your gyre set up?Yeah, I'm not happy with the flow right now, and I don't think many of my corals are either.
I mean the flow itself. Left to right, or back to front, its the circuit the water takes in the tank. The gyre wavemakers are supposed to help create this, but the actual flow itself is called a gyre, i believe thats the case.I don't have a gyre? I have current USA eFlux pumps
Thats what I'm going for. I'm trying to avoid using any wavemakersIt does seem in reefing the term gyre is currently more associated with the device than the more general description of a flow pattern. The introduction of the gyre pump to the market and has arguably made a huge impact. As noted, reefers have created gyres for decades using regular ole pump and plumbing configurations.
If you want to know the flow, add some microbubbles to the return pump. That way you can map your flow better.Huh I never knew that, but that's really neat. Well I guess my water comes out like this
(best I could do short term: x represents wavemaker [one is very weak and only for a small area] and o represents return)

Did you use the bubble to map it out?The top is as of now, the bottom is with better flow. Note, the two flow streams coming off the return (the moon thing) only really affect the upper 20% of the tank, the new flow will give far better flow. Plus I'm shifting the right middle rocks so that water can better reach the left dead spot (red circle)
Gotta post some picturesAlso, I moved the aquascape around, lowering the rocks in the far right, it’s got much better flow already.
Nassirus (sp?) Snails?I’ll post some tonight, I wanted to let the sand settle, the wrasse was being a pain and kept trying to be under any rock I picked up. I’ve gotta get some better sand sifters because there is some detritus under there. Any recommendations?
