I'm looking to upgrade my flow from my 2 Koralias, and I need some guidance. My budget is around $300.

What I'm considering:

- A single mp10qd to run with 1 koralia
- Nero 5
- Gyre xf330
- A pair of Tunze 6040's
- Tunze 6055 with 1 koralia

I was initially leaning towards the gyre, but my rock scape is tall (2 peaks ~3" from waterline), and I'm worried the flow will be disrupted especially with coral growth. The tank is mostly LPS with some SPS up high.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

i run an MP10qd with a Icecap Gyre 1k on the other side in my 40b. If I would do it again I would skip the MP10 and save the money and run 2 1k Gyre they produce so much better flow than the MP10

I had one Icecap gyre 1k in my 40B that I started to dislike because I started it at 30% and eventually ramped it up to 100% and thought it wasn't enough. I also wanted two pumps for more random flow. I switched this out for two MP10s and honestly I'm not sure I like them as much. I realize now the gyre was a lot more flow and circulated the tank much better.

The gyre is big though and the MP10s are much smaller/less noticeable and nicer in that aspect. They also have much better control and randomness. I'm thinking of removing one though and going back to the gyre with one MP10. I'm just not sure where to put them exactly.

It sounds like the general consensus is people like the gyre flow over the MP10. After looking at my rock scape again, I think there is enough room for a gyre's flow, so I'll probably give one a try. I can always supplement with one of my Koralias if I need to.

I disagree with this 100%. The 1k has way more control on random setup than the MP10 out of the box. I can program it to run all kind of different settings through the day. To get the MP10 you have to buy the more expensive wireless pump and then extra $100 for a reeflink. No thanks, ecotech already rips you off enough.

I guess you're right. I was sort of referring to the two pumps vs one pump though and being able to link them together. Two gyre 1ks might be nice but you can't sync or anti-sync them.
