Reef tank build in Japan

Nice Build! What setting / program are you running the Orphek Natura's on? I have them too and wanted to hear from others
Honestly, I'm still just winging it with the settings too...
I don't have many Acros yet, so I'm just sticking with the default program settings for now!

I'll be posting my Orphek Natura settings here as I figure them out!

Okay! Thank you

Check out my custom-built sump for the main tank—I’m pretty proud of it!

The dimensions are 600 x 300 x 300.

Here’s the setup:

1. Drain from the main tank
2. Filter socks
3. Skimmer
4. Filter media
5. Return pump

That’s how I’ve got it running!

This is how it looks in the end.

it looks great but I noticed the metal clamps for the pipes, they will 100% rust even if it says they wont and release toxins into the water. You should buy plastic clamps, if you are in Tokyo they sell plastic ones at
Paupau Aqua Garden Ginza in various sizes, just ask the staff.

I already had a pretty clear vision of how I wanted it to look. I’m thinking about adding a sub-tank on the side sometime soon, too.

I just recently added a "sub" tank to my main setup as well but it is up around the same level as the display as I will be using it as a display fuge. Right now it will/is being used to get the last few fish fat and healthy before going into the display with the big fish.

Thanks for the advice!
I thought stainless steel would be good, but I guess it can still rust when it wants to...
Tokyo isn't close by so I can't go to PauPau, but they sell plastic ones on Amazon and other sites! I'll think about it! Really, thank you!

That’s a brilliant idea! Works like a charm for those finicky eaters.
Definitely gonna give that a try!

Nice, how did you attach the black wall panels to your aluminum stand and what material are the black panels?

The sides are made of plywood!
It is fixed with M6 bolts!

The front is a slightly thicker board with a magnetic catch attached to make it easy to open! Like this!

Hit the 3-month mark with this tank!

Here’s a quick look at the aquascape as it stands.

Just slowly stocking up on Acros and keeping everything stable.
Bummer that I lost the Tenuis, though...

Oh, and I picked up another wavemaker—went with the AI Nero 5.
Honestly, the best part is not having another clunky controller taking up space. Totally worth the upgrade!

Also finally got around to PAR testing the light, so the settings are pretty much dialed in now.
I'll go over the light settings separately!

Besides that, let me know if you know any good Acro!!

I have a question! What did you dial your Orphek light to? I also have a natura icon and am looking for more information!

It's detailed and scheduled by time!
Roughly like this:

  • 11:00 Lights on
  • 12:00 - 17:00 All channels at 100%
  • 18:30 Dim Ch1 and Ch2 down to 70%
  • 20:00 Dim Ch1 and Ch2 down to about 30%. Keep Ch3 through Ch6 roughly at 80%
  • 21:00 Ch1 and Ch2 at 0%, dim Ch3 down to 50%. Keep Ch4 through Ch6 at around 70%
  • 22:00 All channels at 0%

Thanks so much for the info! I’m sorry I took ages to reply! I hadn’t seen the noticing and completely forgot I had asked you the question! I’m very sporadic on R2R now but I have always been looking for more examples of ppl using the lights since I’ve struggled with them a decent bit.

No problem!

I was looking for settings from people using Orphek lights too, but couldn't find much at all... I'm glad if it helps even a little bit!

Enjoy your tank!
