LOL that's going to be one PO'd cable or satellite guy if he ever needs to get to behind the wallplate there.

I'm setting up a 40 breeder also. I used the Eshopps L. One tip is put the template on the inside of the tank to mark the hole. If you use the template to mark the hole on the outside, the rim gets in the way. The hole will be to low and then the waterline is low also. So mark the hole from the inside. Then move the template to the outside of the tank and duct tape the template on the outside of the tank over the marks you made. Drill slow and use plenty of water. It was easy.

I agree on the Ehopps overflow and making from the inside, trim gets in the way. I just did a 75g with the L overflow and its a hair too low. Also make sure you install the gaskets right or it will leak, instructions and youtube video is wrong. I had a 40B for a long time, drilled it and used a 20L as a sump. It was a great setup and it was full of coral. My avatar is that old 40B.

Check out the Modular Marine overflows. I bought the 800GPH for my 40 breeder. It’s dead silent and has 3 drainpipes. One is an emergency in case a snail or something clogs one. If I could do it over again I’d go 1 size bigger on the overflow. I think that’s a 1200 GPH.
I did the same with mine but I got the 1200 or 1600 gph version I don't remember which. Nice long weir almost functions as a coast to coast. Set it up as a bean animal with dual over the back returns and it's dead silent. 20 long sump is big enough for a good sized skimmer and decent fuge area.

Is one Black box enough light for your 40b?

It’s growing mushrooms, zoas, favia and a hammer decent. I just picked up my first SPS Saturday, Monti cap which I have 4-5” from top of water directly under the light. So far so good, I did remove all the lens though. I just find that I need to plan out where I want to place things. Obviously I have way less light on the sides. But I have all my zoas on the sides and my devils hand. LPS and SPS are centered where they receive direct light. Only been a month or so though since I’ve upgraded to this tank.

I know this is an old thread but I've ordered the 800 from modular marine without realizing the drain sizes. I asked about 1 inch drains and apparently they won't fit. I am hesitant to go bigger because it's a 40 breeder and it has a center brace. Do you think I would be alright with the 800 or can you tell me why you would go with the 1200 instead? You wouldn't happen to have any pics of your plumbing would you?
