400 gallon first reef build super newb

Dipping your Corals is a good practice. I may not have been specific enough. I was referring to Fish Pathogens such as Ich. Tomonts can encrust on hard surfaces (frag plugs) and can cause new outbreaks. Many people do not do this, however i'm sure there are instances where an invert or frag plug caused an outbreak.

Well I just lost about eight tangs
And six clown fish
15 blue green chromes
And the flame angel
Plan on restocking with similar
But now it's quarantine tank time I'll show a video of that I just built it it cost me about a grand I should've done it in the beginning but did not

For me it’s hard to qt I normally just use observation qt

It cost me a grand to set up a good quarantine tank protein skimmer sump everything I need and that grand I didn't spend at first cost me 3500 minimum in Fish so no going back in time but now go forward how I should've started

OK so I added 120 watt pentair UV sterilizer
Also got a reactor
Just made a purchase from Ocean devotion for three yellow small tangs and one small purple and they will be going to the quarantine tank for at least two weeks
Shorten quarantine time because ocean devotion quarantine them already for a couple weeks

Just added a holy Grail torch and I believe the other one was a green tip something or other
Gonna let these go for a month or so and if they're doing good I will purchase a handful
Oh yeah I picked up three captive bred yellow tangs and one purple tang
From Ocean devotion in Santa Clarita which is about a 45 minute drive away

Hope you have better success with Torches than I have. My tank is almost 2 years old. I've had success with a bunch of soft corals, and LPS such as duncan, several Favia varieties, and my only SPS -a montipora - so thought I'd try a few torches. Not one survived. Not sure what the problem is. Good luck to you. Enjoying your build write up.

Well you know triple what I know but I have a buddy who is well educated and hopefully I'll have some success and if I don't I'll be posting and if I do I'll be posting check it out

The UV is a good addition. Just make sure the flow rate is correct. As far as your Tangs go, did Ocean Devotion explain their QT process? Two week QT is not usually sufficient, and I would concerned that you're going to reintroduce something into your DT. The second problem is those Tangs are very likely to fight. I have a Purple and they are real jerks and don't back down. Just this week my Purple went at it with my WT Bristletooth and they both looked like they went 12 rounds.

The four tangs I got were all captive bred
Not that that is good enough quarantine but unfortunately my quarantine tank did not cycle I had to put them in and see what happens and the purple one is missing right now it was the size of a quarter not sure where it is it could easily be hiding and yes flow rate for a UV is around 800 area
Hopefully that sounds good

Wow, that's a small Purple. Hope he turns up and is ok. They grow incredibly fast when young. Mine has doubled in size in approx. 8 months. Really no need to purchase these fish in a medium / large size. With those small fish managing Ammonia shouldn't be too tough.

If you got the tangs from Adam @ Ocean Devotion, then you shout be good. He’s legit in his QT.
Yes I've met him a couple times and he's very quick to return messages also seems like a great guy on a sad note one of my yellows is already dead in 48 hours and I didn't really witness any bullying but the c
Sailfin did get a little up and close to them so just a bummer
