So couple of issues that I am currently having with the tank, I have a large amount of surface scum on the water's surface at the moment. I have aimed the powerhead at the surface to try and reduce this as well as improve gas exchange and to battle potential heat issues.

Additionally I am having a large amount of dust and detritus that is gathering in the tank. To me this looks like the silica dust from starting the tank up, so I think that I need additional flow (using another Hydor Pico Evo Mag Pump) to either keep this suspended or I can pick up a small HOB Filter, modify the intake to surface skim and remove later on once the tank has settled a little more

So as a result of this I splashed out and ordered a cheap HOB filter off of Amazon which should arrive tomorrow (along with my CuC and Corals), also picked up a cheap gravity ATO for water bottles

Fairly sure this is a red monti of some sort, or purple with red polyps. Dunno. Anyway it's pretty and was free

Detrivors are burying as I type and the Astrea is starting work on the rock. Got some spare shells and the hermit is currently investigating those and not my snails. Yay. Good day.

I think my bonus frag is a superman montipora. Blue body with red polyps.

Any tips for getting accurate photographs of red corals under blues? Struggling here

Tiny Chinese HOB attached and operational. That should help with the detritus.

So much better already after running for a few hours. I don't have nearly as much GHA as I thought.

I can also now suspend all the detritus in the tank and still see the back which is nice, previously could just make out the Elegance. Still need to raise the surface skimmer to the surface but happy.

What hob filter is that? I think it would be fantastic on a 2.5-5 gallon pico

It certainly seems that way, possibly could fit on a 2G cookie jar, will try that later.

That was my exact experience, pets at home by any chance for the tank?

If you phone's camera has a "Pro" mode, switch to that when taking pictures and adjust it to 10k.

I did notice that the Spiney Astrea that I added has finished the rock I plucked and placed him on and had mown his own way through the GHA.

Thanks, couldn't stay away from having something salty. Keeping it nice and simple, fully bunny proofed and have backup power sorted this time.

The Mrs has agreed that a reef is far more interedesting then the freshwater set ups, so when my immortal Betta (6 years and going.. Strong? Wrong word but has been in his "final" stages for 9 months. About once a week I decide I'll get the clove oil out in the morning to see him swimming around and wanting food. Git) finally goes, sometime this year. I can rehome my cory cats and have the full space of 48x18, thinking shallow though so 10 or 12 high. Trying for a RSR XL 425.
