How much do you think the tank weighs in total with everything in it? That’s the part that worries me about big tanks.

The moving team will set up in my house today and a professional will install all plumbing and set up tank.

The shark is currently in a 60 gallon, but once the monster tank is cycled

Bamboo shark (6.5 inches)
3 snowflake eels (18 inches each)
Saddle puffer (3.5 inches)

Will all go in the new tank.

I plan to add a Male smooth grey hound shark and blue spotted stingray as well as a "Dory"

Are these realistic goals to keep together?
Any other fish to swim in and out of corals you suggest?
Not an experienced Elasmobranch owner, but from what I have read:

Compatibility:
- Puffers might bite sharks and rays
- The eels could consume the small, young Bamboo shark
- Gray smooth-hound sharks grow massive (4 foot maximum for males) and require temperate water (upwards of 70°F)

Potentially suitable tankmates:
- More small, benthic sharks (ex. Chiloscyllium plagiosum, Hemiscyllium ocellatum, and Atelomycterus marmoratus to name a few common ones)
- Lookdowns (Selene sp.)
- Goatfish (Mullidae sp.)
- Porkfish (Anisotremus virginicus)
- Eyed flounder (Bothus ocellatus)
- Zebra Flounder (Gymnachirus sp.)
- Columbian shark catfish (Arius sp.) (can be acclimated to saltwater)
- Squirrel and Soldierfish (Holocentridae sp.)
- Yellow stingray (Urobatis jamaicensis)
- Atlantic stingray (Hypanus sabinus)
- Brazilian electric ray (Narcine brasiliensis)

What are the tank dimmensions?
Is the “coral” you plan on adding live coral or coral rock?
What macroalgae (seaweed) are you growing in your refugium?
What species of Bluespotted stingray do you plan on keeping (Neotrygon kuhlii? Taeniura lymma?)?

The puffer is a saddle puffer (the only puffer I somewhat trust lol)

The actual tank dimensions are 120x36x30 (562 gallons)

Sump is 180 gallons

No eels or blue spotted stingray with bamboo shark till it hits 10 inches plus to be safe thank you for advice)

No idea on which species but likely the smaller most readily available blue spotted species

My hearts set on the gray smooth hound.

Yes males hit a maximum of 4 feet and female Bamboos hit a maximum of 3.5 feet..

But I relate that to humans hitting a maximum of 7 feet (while 85% of us are 5-6 feet tall

I'd expect the bamboo around 3 feet and grey hound shark at 3.5 feet on average.

I am very interested in your opinion after knowing my tanks dimensions.

The coral rock is simply what I already have. Man made .

I wont be adding any other rocks or coral to aquarium.

I will ask the previous owner what kind of seaweed is growing in the sump

Puffers might work. I have seen a few examples of Elasmobranchs getting along with puffers, though I would not risk it.
The moss type stuff in the sump is called "cheato"
Awesome! It's great for nutrient uptake, though like any other macroalgae, it will require trace elements (such as iron).

Thanks for the info!

I am going to guess Taeniura lymma, the smaller and more readily available of the two, though also much more difficult to care for.

I am not so concerned about the Bamboo shark, due to its more sedentary lifestyle. The Grey smooth-hound still seems much too large for your system's dimensions (I wonder if a smooth-hound with the average length you provide would be able to turn easily), even without reaching its maximum size (and they grow quickly), along with its temperate water preference and active lifestyle. Scott Michael's Aquarium Sharks & Rays (which is generally said to recommend smaller minimum tank sizes) recommends a minimum 1,700 gallon aquarium for these sharks, preferably oval/circular in shape. In any case, I hope you know what you are doing and I wish you the best of luck.

I have no idea what I'm doing and I appreciate the luck. Thank you.

I'm just a guy who has monitor lizards and a 60 gallon snowflake tank over the past few years. Also a 1200 gallon freshwater pond.

So I'm clueless on a large saltwater system.

It's just one of those things....

I see countless vids of beautiful setups with sharks to include smooth grey hounds.

I assume the tank must be 12 feet by 4 feet or bigger...

Then I find out the tanks are 240-320 gallons!!!

The sharks are 15 inch juviniles!!!

Being that my tanks twice the size..naturally I'm tempted lol.

Honestly, I'd skip the smoothhound as well. They're just too active and too large for a tank this size as an adult. Go with a coral catshark (Atelomycterus marmoratus) instead. They're the perfect size, and once they realize you're the bringer of food, they'll beg and swim all over the tank like a smoothhound, but don't get as big, like the warmer water, and do much better in captivity in general

If this was my tank I'd skip the Puffer, and keep a ray, your bamboo, a coral cat, an epaulette, the eels, a trio of threadfin lookdowns, a couple squirrelfish/soldierfish (or a single popeye catalufa), a trio of threadfin snapper, your hippo tang, maybe even a few monos (Monodactylus argenatus) and a Scolopsis. A couple fusiliers would look nice, as would some cheap damsels like Chrysiptera parasema, Pomacentrus mollucensis, and a school of Dascyllus melanurus, and in with all these big guys, they should actually school to some extent. And they're smart enough to normally avoid being eaten, especially if you give them some smaller holes to hide in where the big guys can't get to them.

The wife and I truly appreciate your help on this matter.

Unfortunately we already have the saddle puffer. He slept on the sharks egg nightly prior to hatching.

The wife and I simply adore Puffy. His personality is one we could not let go

I will research the coral cat shark.

Edit

After watching an hour of videos...Its a very rpretty shark.

I can substitute it for the grey smooth hound

Excellent choice! I loved my old coral cats. Awesome animals and they were fine with anything they couldn't swallow whole.

As for the puffer, just keep a close eye on the fish. Any nipping at all and it'll need to go, and be prepared for the worst. Puffers are tricky. I know people who have kept freshwater mbu puffers (one of the most peaceful puffer species) in with freshwater stingrays (Potamotrygon) for years, only to come home one afternoon and have tails or eyes bitten off, or chunks missing from the disks.

My own previous Arothron puffers (mappa, dogface, and stars and stripes) would not hesitate to chew long fins or slow moving fish, and my previous valentini and blue spot puffers were worse than the Arothron. Super nippy fish. I ended up keeping the Canthigaster puffers in a 180 with damsels, the stars and stripes puffer, a porcupine puffer, squirrelfish, a lunare wrasse, a bird wrasse, a bluehead wrasse, and a group of yellow tangs (who always had nips in their fins from the Canthigaster).

Tonight if I notice anything I will.move the puffer back in the 60 gallon

I added some cleaner snails and a clown fish.

Gonna go look at baby bamboo and coral sharks this wednesday.

Question.

Can I put small 10 for $10 dollar hermit crabs in the 600 gallon with the 7 inch long 2 week old bamboo shark?

I dont Carr if the shark wats them or not.

I care only for the safety of the shark
