6 line wrasse problems

Hello,

So today I picked up a 6 line wrasse (2 inches) from my LFS. It's been in the tank for about 4 hours now and isn't moving away from the top corners of the tank and seems to be swimming erratically. It will break the surface with its mouth from time to time, but doesn't move more than about 2 inches from side to side much. It isn't having an issue staying upright and I haven't gotten it to eat yet.

The other fish in my tank are healthy and eating. 2 clowns, 2 yellowtail damsels, and a lamarks angel. Water chemistry was tested by my LFS today before I picked up the 6 line and all of the parameters were good. I have been raising alk to combat some cyano, and the only other recent change was the addition of a 2p frag of rasta Zoas.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

did you drip the fish before adding.most lfs keep there salinity low in fish tanks.sometimes if you just drop in your tank it can take awhile for the fish to adjust sometimes it can kill the fish

I bought one about a week ago and he took to the rocks and thats where he was until the next morning. now he's swimming around and hanging the clowns. what was his behavior like when you saw him at your LFS?

I forgot to add that it seems to swim in circles when it does swim.

I didn't drip, my LFS keeps their salinity spot on, and I only use their salt water and their RO top off water after having issues in my FW with tap water.

It was in a smaller tank at the LFS so I assumed that once being added to the larger system it was trying to get used to the new surroundings.

do you only float the bag then add it to your tank?

Did you check the salinity? My LFS told me their water was 1.025 and when I got home and checked it was 1.031! I don't take their word for it any more. Hope he perks up and comes around!

^^This. I've had LFS owners tell me their SG was one thing, and when I get home & double check it's way way off. Some LFS still use swing arm hydrometers (mine does) and those are not very accurate at all.

In any case, everything the OP is describing sounds like classic symptoms of osmotic shock.
