Only one 6 line in tank. She's really fat today. Is there a type of disease/parasite that makes them really big?

I'm not aware of one that's anything like common in aquarium-keeping, though I do know that my own six-line sometimes blows up like a balloon ... just because he's an absolute swine at the dinner table . . .

Perhaps @melypr1985 or @Humblefish are aware of something I'm not. (Who am I kidding? Those two are aware of _tons_ of things about which I have only the vaguest clues!)

Four possibilities come to mind:
  1. Overeating
  2. Constipation
  3. Internal infection or growth (tumor, Lympho, etc.)
  4. Swim bladder disorder i.e. gas bubble forms in the swim bladder region

Is number 3 the only dangerous one for the fish?

Funny I've had a 6-line for about 2 weeks and haven't been feeding very much but just noticed his/her belly was swollen. Also he's bigger after 2 weeks. I just figured he found some bristle worms or ate the amphipods that used too populate my tank...if he is overeating there isn't much I could do too stop it.

If it isn't overeating then try feeding brine shrimp which helps with constipation.

Update: swelling went down and returned to normal, but man it was big!

I wouldn't be surprised if it ate something big. I watched one devour 2 sexy shrimp in a row. I never would have believed it could open its little mouth that big if I hadn't watched him do it.
