Hum I was thinking about adding one more moray to my 300 but I might consider a snake! I love when my morays swim around. My eels do like to open swim sometimes but Ghost is the one who really loves it
That would look lovely! But I've also heard that snake eels are incredibly docile and the jewel moray does raise red flags

That's wonderful news! Have you had the snake eels with a fangtooth or only pebbletooths? I ask this because my zebra didn't eat for about 2 weeks after my fangtooth stole his food and I would imagine snake eels of course being more docile can cause issues

Only pebbles but they've fought over food and despite being smaller the pebbles have always won. It hasn't put it off food though.

What has put it off is feeding too big chunks. They have tiny mouths and are slow eaters for size so you do have to be careful not to feed large pieces. That's why mine no longer eats silversides. Kept struggling to eat it and sometimes got stolen. Should have cut them up.

Ivar is actually very chill fr what Ive read about jeweled morays! He is probably my calmest eel, only thing is he has to be fed first otherwise he will try to take food from the other three resulting in a big eel knot lol. But other than that he is very calm, just pokes his head out, and goes and hangs out with each of the eels all day. Rotates between them every few hours like he is the leader checking on them! He is awesome. He would love a snake eel I think! First time he saw Ghost in the the tank he went under the rock with her and smelled her, then curled around her until she was comfortable to poke her head out with him.

That sounds wonderful! Do tell me if it does work for you, though there are indeed variations in species and their aggressions i might try it aswell!

I've found the Atlantic species to be bolder and tougher then pacific. Goldspotted has been as easy as a snowflake. Everyone Ive known with a banded has found them to be picky and more cowardly.

Just gonna scoot in here and ask

is there another eel I could get alongside the snowflake and other prospects?

Just trying to evaluate my options

I wouldnt recommend two in that size tank as minimum size is 2 feet (unless you can get a dwarf golden moray but Ive never seen them in stock!) also bio load is a ton with 4 predators in there. I just dont think theres enough room for two eels to coil in and stretch out together in that size tank. My 4 love hanging out together but theres enough room for them to be in their own caves and swim and stretch out when they want to

Example:

Now Nebula (the zebra) is wayy bigger than the other three (she doesnt understand that though) lol so she will coil around rocks but they do love to come out and swim in the open with each other! They pace the tank (8foot long) a few times and then go back in their caves after they get a work out lol

That's great to know! But After having the zebra i don't think i should get a banded snake now unless I want to get them both confused haha, though I did see a Myrichthys maculosus in the store, though it was already sold, have you ever had that? The lfs said that they already got it eating after a week or so

It's not surprising since they are extremely beautiful! I doubt that I would get those here, but who knows since I might get a surprise on March since that apparently seems to be the month on where I see peculiar species of eels migrate

I haven't. I've had both gold spotted and banded and seen the goldspotted in the wild. Almost got this one but...

It's funny because I actually thought of doing that one time, especially for the rare white bodied eel since it was selling for quite an alright price (250dollars) for being so rare but I just forgot to do so LOL

For that scrawny little thing?! Mine is easily twice as rotund. Not like when I saw my first wild chain link a little later…
I heard they only grow to 2 feet. That one was at least 3
Most of the eels description on their sizes are the ones usually caught mostly in that size so there are definitely exceptions on the sizes! I do plan on catching some eels so wish me luck!
