Just did a water change and big algae clean up. The Bryopsis is taking over everything right now. It’s awful stuff. Most corals are doing ok. A few that were covered in it aren’t looking too hot but I’m doing my best to keep it cleaned up with the little spare time I have!

Have you tried Reef Flux to get rid of the Bryopsis? Nothing will eat it, over the pas three years I’ve used it twice and stats working in a few days and cleared my tank of the Bryopsis. No ill effects on any of the other inhabitants.

I’ve only tried raising magnesium which did nothing but make the torch look super luxuriously long lol
I’ll look into Reef Flux. The solutions I’ve read about all suggested they might work but also kill a lot of corals…which I really don’t want, but then again, everything will die if it’s continuously covered in algae I guess

I’ve used it twice without any effects on my corals or any of my other inhabitants. Just follow the instructions. I try to keep my magnesium at 1400 or higher. My torches, frogspawn and hammers love it.

Ooooh those are so gorgeous!

The byropsis is fully GONE! I used Fish Flux…the Reef Flux wasn’t available in Canada and well, is the same thing!

After a few short days the bryopsis was falling off rocks and bubbles forming under what was left. I pulled a bunch out and the rest disintegrated.

Im now battling cyano as I’d image a result of having high nutrient levels from carbon and phosban reactors being off during treatment. I think cyano is easier to handle and is far less damaging than the strangling bryopsis that was taking over.

After a week I did a water change (this afternoon) and we’re looking much better.

Only a couple of small frags suffered and they were ones that weren’t doing great to start with. Everything else has recovered fully!

A super quick tank update!
Everything is doing spectacular, with the exception of flourishing pests! There’s a whole bunch of new fish on order to arrive Tuesday and I’ll share pics once everyone is eventually added to the display!

We have an abundance of asterinas, spaghetti worms, flat worms, and aptasias that the nudibranchs didn’t take care of before disappearing.

On a positive note, we have a perfect little anemone crab hosting in a bubble tip anemone and a Molly Miller Benny to try and tackle the aptasias! Worm meds are arriving this week too…clearly the LPSs are bothered by them

Good to take care of the pest but spaghetti worms are great cuc. The rest must go. True aptasia eating peppermint shrimp will do the job with aptasia. My lfs only had 2 and I don’t think the small one made it but the other one got the job done quickly and I was going to buy 6.

Your bta is looking great!

Quick tank update. It needs a clean up this weekend. Last weekend was removing all the skimmer & fans to scrub them down. A pic of nassarius eggs laid this week since I have pics earlier in the thread of other snail reproductive efforts.
We got a big livestock order in this week and everyone seems to be doing quite well so far. It was -25 at night so we were a bit worried about shipping across the country right now. The usual crabs, snails, hermits and a few new urchins joined as clean up crew and 5 new fish including this sailfin, file fish, tiny little fox face, and banded pipefish who has become best friends with the mandarin for some reason…maybe The Man… “Darren” has taught him where all the best copepod bars are in town.

The big white urchin is carrying a plastic cat that fell off a shelf into the nasty back depths of the tank a while ago I wasn’t able to get it out because it was behind and under all of the rock structure. He decided it was his.

Beautiful, well done!

In a horrible turn of events, we’ve lost most of the fish in the tank overnight.
I guess there was more algae growth than I thought and through gradually lowering phosphates to a more appropriate level it caused a massive die off resulting in a tank crash. We did an emergency water change and the remaining few fish seem to have made a full recovery.

So sorry for your loss!

Now that the phosphates are getting back under control and the tank was thoroughly cleaned up, I placed an order to replace a bunch of fish. Luckily, all corals seemed to have survived! Wednesday new fish arrive and I will be sure to post some pics!

I can’t wait to see some pictures!

Some new friends have arrived to replace what was lost! We added a kole tang, yellow coris wrasse, fox face, itty bitty little yellow clown goby, pipe fish, long spine urchin and sea hare.
The fish are all pretty small but the sea hare is a huge chunker who went right to work finding hair algae to munch on! I think he’s one of my new favourites in the tank!
