Reserved for most recent tank info/equipment/pics etc.

This will be more interesting once I get things up and running.

Some background: a retrospective that runs up to the present.
About 15 years ago my family set up a saltwater tank, I was instantly hooked ::heh:: I flung myself headlong into it and learned anything and everything I could. But in hindsight, I probably took it too seriously. My passion and intensity drove everyone else in the house away since they weren’t doing the “right” things. Stewardship fell solely to me. Which worked for a time, but then I got married and moved out. The tank was eventually taken down.
I tried to start up a tank of my own at first, taking all the experience gained from making mistakes with the first tank. I would get so far but then get distracted. Plenty of ideas but no follow through.
Finally Wifey laid it all down; build it or sell it, the equipment was taking up too much space to go unused. Plus our 3 yr old has really shown an interest in aquatic life. That was enough.
Time to go to work...

I had the tank, stand, and rock sitting dry for a number of years. Had to first put it in it’s new home and give it a leak test

the probably too small Coralife skimmer hitchhiked it’s way from the basement to where it sits now.

Added the sand, some xxlbs (can’t remember but I’ll fix it later), rock, and water to make sure everything still held.

I knew that I wanted an sump/refugium, so I built the stand to hold a 40b in the bottom with enough room to do maintenance.

After getting some lovely advice and encouragement from all you good folks here at r2r I ultimately decided to get a baffle system off of eBay and install it in the sump

First baffles going in. Drain and filter sock compartment

That’s actually part of the plumbing issue that is giving me pause at the moment...

I have a cpr aquatics hob cs50 overflow that I bought ages ago, however I’m having some issues with it. There is a hose that came with it, but I’m not sure it was made for it.

Every time I’ve ever connected it, it leaked. I’ve tried to clamp it, but still leaks. CPR’s website says that there is some sort of adapter for hose, but I guess I didn’t get that.
I thought maybe to try and get a threaded attachment directly to the bulkhead but I couldn’t find one that fit on my last trip to the big box store. It wouldn’t be a special size would it?

Why not just drill the tank and hard plumb? Would make a quieter overflow and no leaky hose.

I just drilled my 75 a few days ago. I decided to get the Exotic Marine Systems 32" overflow, but there are a lot of other options you could go with as well. It was very east and I love it!. I tranferred my 40b into it and love the extra space. Go for it, drill the tank! You will be glad you did.

If that is a standard 3/4" or 1" bulkhead in the overflow you can still hard pipe it and just do away with the flex hose that came with it. PVC pipe should just slide up into the bottom of the bulkhead. Although the exotic marine overflow is sweet, love mine.

That isn't how that goes. The threads are strictly for the bulkhead nut. You need to glue a piece of pvc on the inside of it then connect to that.
