Welcome to R2R and the salty world. Lots of knowledgable and helpful people here who will support and advise you when needed.
I now know to learn about a fish or coral before buying. Easy to buy on impulse and many LFS will encourage you so they get an easy sale. Ask about something and they will often point to a potion on the shelf that will cure it. Much better to ask on R2R. There are experts here and you can evaluate a range of answers (often one answer will be agreed by many, making decisions easier). I must add though that there are some excellent LFS who give great advice and know their stuff.

Hi all, super excited about reef2reef so much good info and so little time lol. I've got a 75 gallon aquarium with a 20 gallon sump. Been in the hobby about 9 months, I've got some zoa's a torch some hammers a bubble coral and some mushrooms. How long have you all been in the hobby what's the one thing you know now that you wish you knew when you're still under a year in

Welcome to R2R! Definitely would tell myself to invest in good lights to start! I bought a $70 no brand light that just had blue LEDS and then upgraded to Red Sea ReefLED 50s. Worth the investment. Happy Reefing!

Welcome to R2R and the wonderful folks, information and help.
Patience, it is the big word around here, Reefing is patience to cycle, to watch things grow, to keep your tank balanced.
I recommend to everyone joining to create a tank build thread.
1. You get to see where you have started and how much you have grown in this hobby.
2. We love pictures and to see what your doing with your tank.
3. It’s a great learning tool for all of us to see what works and doesn’t . We learn great stuff from each other.
Lastly the only bad question here is the one not asked...

Tentacled trailblazer in your tank: Have you ever kept a large starfish?

  • Not currently, but I have kept a starfish in the past.
