My 9 gal cube is presently a FW tank. I am in no rush to convert it as my pea puffers are doing great still (2 years I've had them).

But I can dream and plan for the day they go. I'll be switching it back to salt (it was salt before I upgraded). I want something extremely different and want some suggestions from you all!

The tank is going to be low-tech with a filter converted to a HOB refugium. Lighting will most likely be a Par38 bulb for softies if I decide to add corals to this tank, otherwise I'll use the Finnex Fugeray Planted+ fixture that I currently have.

Originally I thought about dwarf ponies, but the fact I'd have to feed them at least twice a day, live food, I can't do that. I don't have that focus to breed and hatch the food myself on a daily basis.

I want one unique fish. Dwarf Lion would not fit in this tank.. Frogfish or anglers may be pushing? What do you guys think I can do to make this a different tank?

How about an ornamental Saltwater Shrimp tank, maybe? Bumblebee Shrimp, Sexy Shrimp, Pederson's Cleaner Shrimp, with maybe a peppermint snapping shrimp and a yasha goby?

I have sexies in my 2.7 gal tank at work :) Love those shrimps.

I am indesive on goby/shrimp pair. I've tried in the past when this tank was saltie but they never lasted too long.
You can also get one of those so called strong, independent snapping shrimp, the one's that "don't need no goby".

You mean the mantis shrimp? I forgot about those. Wonder if they'll be good in a 9 gal cube?
No, like there are actual snapping/pistol shrimp that don't pair with gobies! Example
