9 watt pump using 17 watts

My aquatrance 1000 skimmer pump is only rated for 9 watts but according to my eb832 it’s using 17 watts is this harmful to the tank, and is the pump broken?

What the eb total volts and and pump amps showing. Would not put to much stress on a low watt device reading The voltages meter on the ob823 or not the most accurate and the amps round to the nearest tenth. A 1/10 Change in amp reading will change your wattages numbers +-12 watts assuming your voltage is at 120v

The only real harm would be the 2~3 degree temp increase in the pump as the pump heats up

It won’t leach anything weird because of the extra watts?

Not for a long time....however, you should return as overwattage is a sign of a bad pump, (or something causing a restriction, or too big of a head for the pump).

As mentioned earlier this is a brand new skimmer pump so not sure

You are right and pls excuse if it sounded snooty.........
IMO, exchange for a new pump.

Temp is raising so might just have to take it off now, so irritating

are you running external or in sump? externals usually raise only by 2~3 degrees regardless if broken or not....anything above that would be concerning....

If its going to cause you sleepless nights, then remove it

How sensitive/accurate is the device measuring this? Watts = Volts * Amps, so maybe the amps are being rounded up here. Also are these the numbers you see after running for a while or just on startup?
