Hi R2R. Just getting back into the hobby after a 20-year hiatus. To be fair, I never really got far my first time around but I did pick up some basics. That said, I came across a 90 gallon tank free, combined with the fact that I just purchased a home last year, I figured this was a good time to get back into the hobby/obsession.
So, with that in mind, I was looking for some advice/feedback. Truth be told, I should have started with this thread before I made so many purchases, but I just dove right in. So here goes, this is what I have so far:
1x 90 Gallon tank with a built-in corner overflow with two pre-drilled holes (1" and 3/4")
1 x Fiji Cube Fiji-30 Advanced Reef Sump 2nd Gen
1 x Bubble Magus - Curve 5 Elite Protein Skimmer Sicce SK-200
1 x Maxspect - Jump DC 6K Controllable Return Pump (1585 GPH)
1 x Aquatic Life - 48" Hybrid T5HO 4x54W Fixture
2 x Koralia Third Generation Powerhead
1 x Bulk Reef Supply - 300W Titanium Heater Element
1 x Ink Bird - WiFi Aquarium Heater Controller
1 x Bulk Reef Supply - 5 Stage Premium Plus 100 GPD RO/DI System
80 lbs of CaribSea South Seas Base Rock (Dry rock)
Various PVC pipe and fittings
Tank stand
On my todo/purchase list
Various test kits Ammonia, Nitrate, Salinity, etc.
Starter Bacteria
Sand
T5 Bulbs for my light fixture
Glass cleaner/scraper
With that out of the way, here are my questions:
Any major items that I'm not thinking of/missing?
The light fixture I purchased takes 4 T5 bulbs, what type should I purchase?
With only two pre-drilled holes, I was wondering what the best configuration was? I figured I would use both as drainage in a Herbie setup and run PVC behind the tank, specifically where the overflow is to hide it for my return. Is this a good approach? If so, which hole should I use for the primary vs secondary?
Does the CaribSea dry rock need to be cured prior to putting it into the new setup?
Should I purchase live sand instead of dry sand?
That's it for now. Thanks in advance for any advice.
