I have had stoney corals. Ive done the whole torch corals and frog spawns. Ive had scolys and the prettiest clams money will buy. 25 years of reefing experience and everything still died at some point. Change of course. I now have a tank full of 80% mushrooms, gorgonians, Kenya tree, a beautiful bubble tip that both my clowns are hosting, and about a dozen rock flowers, and a few zoanthids. Have a orchid dotyback, a butterfly for aptasia control, and a blood shrimp. Everyone gets alone. The tank is full of color, and everything continues to spread. I have a red sea reefer 170 with a reef wave led 90. I run my lights from 830am to 730pm. There is a 3 hour build up and a 3 hour sunset essentially. The moon rise(ultra violet) comes up at 7 and off at 11. My blues peak out at 50%. My whites peak at 70%. My ultraviolet peaks at 25%. I have a reef wave wave maker that runs 24/7, mounted on the rear of the tank and blowing towards the front. It pulses from level 1 for 2 seconds to level 5 for 2 seconds. Salinity is .024 and temperature stays at 84°. Fish and tank are fed frozen food twice a day. Water changes of 20% done twice a month. I dont dose. I dont use cheato and my tank is healthy and happy. Point is, if you are having trouble with other corals or you are a newbie, go with soft corals. Get all the color you want. And watch everything grow. Any questions, let me know.

Hey awesome post. I saw you mention no chaeto/ fuge. Do you have a skimmer? I am going to do a softie tank with basically no fish but a hearty invert crew and can’t decide if I need one.
