907 Tank & Stand Build - 55 Gallon

Have a Starry on my list for the 83. Are they usually that aggressive to other fish? CBB and Foxface are also on my list, higher in priority than the starry.

Mine has no issues with other fish, occasional zoomies but model citizen otherwise!

WOW on the stand!

Thanks! I calculate it can hold about 23 of these 55 gallon tanks, stocked, stacked on top of each other. However, having moved this stand twice, I will be using less wood next time.. ha.

You would die if you see the stand I built for my 300 its held up to the quake we had a few year back though so we are 100 percent good :)

Yea, I've been through the quakes here for 12 years, that was one of my main concerns. We had a 46 gal FW tank near Homer prior, I think it was the 7.9 in the gulf earlier in 2018 where we woke up to water just sloshing out of it..

Yeah that was a good one and then the after shcocks for a month yeesh lol
I was driving a box truck at the time I thought the tires blew out lol Lost water out of the tanks but that was it.
Where are you at now ?

Mine's not a jerk to any of the "gentle" fish in my tank. Foxface doesn't seem bothered by the Starry at all.

Yea, always fun with the quakes..!

We're up in the MatSu these days, Anchorage+ area for you as well?

Hope everyone had a safe NYE!

We escaped north for a quiet evening near the big mountain. Lights over Denali, 12/31/24:

so pretty but sooooo cold

All good in the hood here, tank is on cruise control, bi-weekly water changes and glass cleaning and that's about it lately. Other than enjoying the view.

Otherwise, I picked up a 3D printer (Creality Ender 3 Max Neo) and I'm absolutely hooked. Can't stop won't stop uuhhh na na na naaaa this thing is awesome. Getting familiar with Fusion 360 and Prusaslicer, burning through PLA before moving up to PETG. First aquarium design will likely be a hood for the Plank Feeder. Hehe.

I keep kicking around the idea of getting one. But I don't need another hobby. How easy was it to set up? I saw when @tbrown got one and i pulled my hair out for him.

What's sad is he got the same one as me and his is going beautiful it looks like. I think I spent too much time tweaking it instead of letting it do what it's made to do.

You should totally do it. It is, addicting!

I picked up the same model as Tim based on mainly he and Sam's back and forth on units, and mine was basically plug and play.. Creality Ender 3 Max Neo, has the upgraded Sprite hot end, auto bed leveling, 300mm build plate, ~$300 via Bezos.

Attach the gantry with 4 bolts, attach the display with 3 screws, set z-axis (slide a piece of paper under the nozzle while adjusting up/down), check belt tightness (2 easy knobs), load the included sample PLA filament and select one of the pre-loaded models to print (there are 2). Hit Go. Benchy and some other initial prints came out great, including the "blind draw tool" I modeled in Fusion 360 (my first model) for our upper blinds. = immediately hooked.

I am using a different slicer app I believe, PrusaSlicer (I think Tim runs Cura), which may have different defaults (assuming? I haven't used Cura), which are 205 C first layer, 200 other layers, 60 C bed temp (used those as is for all prints so far).

Only "issues" I've had so far, gantry bolts were tighter than expected (but went in just fine), first load of filament through the extruder needed a sharper angle cut on the filament and some wiggle (no big deal), and one 6" round print (not pictured above) had some peel off the bed, but I didn't add a brim and still using OEM temp settings on the slicer. It is still fine for my use so printed 4 different pieces with the same settings and no repeated issues. Nor have I cleaned the bed yet :grinning-face-with-big-eyes:

I don't use a brim, I use the other thing that just draws a circle around the print project - I can't remember what it's called right now. If you're having bed adhesion on bigger prints maybe do a slower first layer and add 5 or 10 degrees to the bed for that layer.
