I broke my tibia an fibula in 7 places. They put a 20 inch rod down it. It was a spiral fracture on both. The Good news is I healed good enough to wobble around in 6 weeks. I chose the rod because I did not want a cast and to get moving faster. It was one of he easiest breaks I had due to that choice.

Oh my, both legs! Prayers for a speedy recovery and lots of pain meds:) oddly enough I took a spill on Sunday and beat the crap out of my left ankle and right calf. For about 30 seconds I thought I had to of broken something because it hurt so bad, but I was walking around a minute later. Those 30 seconds were terrible and mine were only bad bruises so I cannot imagine what you are going through! Thank goodness you don't need surgery! Take advantage of all the forced rest and set up a recliner right in front of your tank;)

Thank you so much, I'm so glad that yours were only bruises, I had my fingers crossed really hard that that's what mine were but it just wasn't my lucky day:rolleyes:

Stay Positive and you will be better in no time.

I can relate to what your dealing with , well kinda all my issues are on my right side. I have had 3 surgery's just in the past 2 months with 2 directly related to all my injuries from my fall back in 06. ( the third one 2 1/2 weeks ago was my gall bladder)

I have had 13 total related to my fall, and numerous other procedures.

Use your aquarium as a way to heal, it will help you more then you can imagine.

Take it one day at a time, dont be afraid to ask for help and post a lot and talk to your reef friends. It will help you a ton.

And use lots of Ice on your ankle and leg, it helps more then any pain pill.

I wish you a speedy recovery and many prayers.

Chris oddly enough I broke my fibula last week. It's been a full week now. After X-rays it appeared as a very clean spiral fracture. And they put me in a splint. I don't get a cast until the 29th. Concerned about the healing process my Dr stated the techs have looked at the images and are not concerned with the break get some rest and try to keep elevated when you can, we will see you on the 29th! After doing a little research, the fibula only bears about 10% of the load when you are on it and most people can begin to to walk and put there body weight on it again in about 3-4 weeks. Hope you heal quickly and if sure reefing community is anything like mine, you will be in good hands. FWIW by 250 burst a seam the same day and reef friends took my tank down completely within a few hours and housed all my livestock until the builder gets my new tank done and delivered.
Take it easy and make sure you follow your own advice!!!

Chris take it easy brother and like the others said, family and health first! Waiting on the insurance to decide if I get to have back surgery myself. So I feel your pain. Good luck and take care of yourselves.

I want to thank all of you for you kind words, thoughts and prayers,it really does help each time I read your post! I'm wearing an air cast on each foot when I need to get around and that's not easy but it sure beats having 2 cast:D 6 weeks seems like forever but hopefully it will go by fast. I really do love my reef tank and as many of you mentioned I sit my self down prop my feet up and just relax and enjoy my sea creatures. There are several of you that have posted here that are also going through a rough time and my thoughts are with you all and wish you the best.:) Thank you all again!!
