A Few Questions!!

I just swapped last night in my 65g from 2x250 waectortt pfo ballast w/th spider reflector and sps bulbs to a Galaxy ballast w/th Radiums and lumenarc mini reflectors.

My canopy is about 13in tall that put the bottom of the reflector about 8in or so from the water and the light bulb about 10in from water thats was with the spider reflector.

1)w/th the lumenarc mini the relector bottom is about 6in from water and the bulb about 8in do you think this going to be a problem? it would be a good bit of work to get anymore height.

2)Also with the spider relector i was able to have a 9in desk fan mounted in the front of the canopy. I had it blowing down across the water and pushing the air out the back of the canopy. I never had temp probs. but with the new lumenarcs there was no room for the fan so i mounted a tall slim fan on the wall behind the tank its blowing air in the canopy instead of out of it. Its not a very strong fan so do you think this will be ok or is it just going to move hot air around in the canopy

I did fire the lights up for about a hr and the temp went from 80 to 80.8 but thats about where it would be before. If it deosnt cool it enough what would be my next route

You may want to reduce the light cycle temporarily and/or add some screen to acclimate the coral to the new brighter light. With the new reflector and bulbs, you just increased your par quite a bit.

I added one sheet of eggcrate and a sheet of black window screen. It still looks brighter than the other set up so would you add more eggcrate or screen? w/th what ive got on there do you still think i should cut the light cycle back?

p.s all my coral i got from ya'll look great under radiums the color is unreal

just shorten the cycle and you will be fine.

No the height will not be a problem.....eventually...lol (I used to run my radiums 6" off the water)

I say that because your corals need to be acclimated to the light first, and you need to control the heating issues. Which answers your second question.

I don't think a little comp fan will handle your heating issues. I am going to suggest to you what solved all of my problems without buying a chiller.

There is a fan that walmart sales and other home stores that you can aim directly on your sump. I have mine plugged into my contoller and it kicks on at 79 degrees and off at 78. It keeps my tank perfectly in check when before I was getting to 83 and higher and had to turn lights off. It is a little loud when on high, but if you set it on low and have it kick on before the tank gets hot, it will keep it at the lower level and not be loud at the same time.

If you don't have a controller, just get a $99 Reef Keeper Lite and it will do all you need it to do.

Thanks rev i have a controller just got it from gnoles, so i'm off to wal-mart to look at that fan. Trick is going to be getting it to fit under my stand. W/th a 11 in 3 speed fan blowing on it i can get it to stay around 81.7 but thats fan on high blowing in the canopy. I also think it would help if i cut some exhaust vents in the canopy there is only the hole in the back.

I told my better half we could solve this problem today if she would just ok me getting a bigger tank then we would have more room for fans and such :wink:

I'm all for that!!! Then you'll need more light, then more rock, then a calcium reactor, and a bigger skimmer. Mwhhahahahaha! This is how I ended up with my 185.

She has ok'ed the new tank now i'm just not sure how big i could get with it being upstairs. I dont know how much weight the floor can hold. I would like a 150 to 200g
