With my last coral purchase, I got two hermit crabs as a freebie, labeled "bumblebee hermits". I had just donated my two blue legged hermits because they were too big and causing chaos in my tank. These guys are tiny, maybe half an inch, will they stay small or should I consider donating them as well? Thank you!

You can always trade the large ones to your LFS and get small ones in exchange.
None of my LFSs do trades. They just accept free donations. No credits either. I gave the previous ones to someone else on Facebook with a huge tank.

ah dang. It will take a while to grow though. Do you have fellow reefers or a local reefing group?
Facebook, yes. But I mainly wanted to know if it's indeed a bumblebee hermit, since they apparently stay small.

I used to have some in my tank.
They were sold as yellow foot hermit crabs and have caused me no problems.

They do like to go after snails that are upside down though, but it usually takes them a day to find it.

Update: The store said these are Clibanarius striolatus hermits. According to google they should be reef safe, and grow up to 1.5 inches. Does anyone else have any experience with them? Mine are very tiny so far, and I haven't noticed any bad behavior.

Yes and they never touched any of my corals.
