It's been so long since I've been on here! All this time, tiara has been enjoying her algae filled tank. I couldn't do water changes, so to compensate I kept algae all over to keep nitrates down.

Now I wanna do a bit of a reset and kill the algae. The filter will keep its bacteria, dont worry about that. I'm planning to replace the sand, clean off the tank from all algae, and cleanse the rocks. I'm trying to have this clean done within a few hours once I start it, and tiara should be out of her tank for just a few hours. I'm planning to use arag alive special grade or Fiji pink, or maybe even ocean direct sand with a similar grain size. The sand can be cloudy, but the cloudiness cannot affect tiara harmfully. Hopefully a sand that keeps the cycle safe with my fish.

After this, I'll save up my own money and get a simple GSP. It should take off and compete with any new algae, and with the look, my mom will no longer stop me from spending more on the tank!

Good luck. Following along to see how things turn out.
Ill try and keep as much bacteria possible, like in filter media, thermometer, etc.
I think that much bacteria can handle the load of a clownfish who hasnt eaten in a few days...
Plus, it should hopefully spread in that time. I will also get a bottle of fluval cycle, which tested to be able to make ammonia go from .5-1ppm to 0 in a fresh new tank, so im sure with some already present bacteria it'll be even easier.

This thread is helping...
Might not tap rinse the rocks, might just brush them in saltwater to kill all the algae, or I might keep 1 in salt and the rest via tap.

Apparently tap water has little effect on bacteria according to this...
If so, I can just use normal tap and maybe declorimate at the end ...

Yea I'll probably do the following:
Day 1: take out the rocks and clean them with salted, declorinated tap water. I'll also make my aquascape, with a bit less rock.

Day 2: take out the fish, drain most of the water, only leaving some. Clean the tank with tap till spotless. Make fresh salted water, then add some old water. Rocks go back in too. After it settles, put tiara back in, and put fluval cycle in there to help.

I think I'll get Fiji pink to save money, and space, for a 10 gallon bag. I saw it in person at petco, and BOY it's a LOT larger than the substrate I have now. On average its around 2-3x the size.

Now, wet or dry sand? That's the question...
Do I have to rinse wet sand?

That tank is too far gone to salvage. I'd start over fresh.

Yep. They still have a little green tint thats a pain to get off, but i personally like it. Ill leave a tiny bit of GHA for the CUC im gonna get.
Im thinking...
3-4 hermits
1-2 nassarius snails
1-2 trochus snails
(in the future) cleaner shrimp.

BTW, cleaned the tank saturday, but put her in sunday.
