None.

I just use a clip on lens kit. I open the camera app, put on the lens, and take pics. Ambient lighting in the room should be little to none

I like the above lens kit, it comes with a glass macro lens which really helps with the close ups. Keep in mind the macro lens affects the focal distance. The macro only works for things in a certain range, I’m not sure exactly, maybe 2”-8”. But basically if something is blurry you have to remember you might be too close, and then back up slowly and the object will then come in focus. Then, from that distance, you can zoom. It’s counter intuitive that If you want a close up shot you need to back up then zoom, but that’s how the optics work

I use blue heavy lighting to accent the corals, with a little of the other channels mixed in. This will make any digital camera oversaturate the blues, as the cameras are very sensitive to blue. To combat that, I combine the orange and yellow lenses.

The kit also comes with gradient orange and yellow, and you can rotate them to fine tune how much filtering you need. But I don’t really use these.

For my lighting, the methods I mentioned properly filter out the blues and shows coral as they appear in person. The substrate will not be correct, it’s white and absorbs/reflects the blues the most. The corals will be accurate

You could always turn up whites and then down blues and use the yellow lens + macro

Nice pics VintageReefer (and nice acans!). Can you tell me the diameter of the glass (inside the rim) of that lens kit? My iPhone 15 pro has 3 lenses are arranged in a square that is 2" diagonally, wondering if it will work with my phone. Thanks!

It’s 1.5”

You could get the flipper magnifier and optional orange filter…it magnets to the glass and you can slide it around or use it like a hand held lens

I think you would be more than covered with this, but lighting should have some whites mixed in because the orange isn’t quite strong enough. It helps a lot but I’d prefer a little more filtering of the blues. So…accommodate with less blue and more white and orange should work great

OK thanks for that VR. I think for now I'll keep shooting with my iPhone in Raw mode and adjusting white balance in Photoshop. Seems to work OK.

I didn't save the before image of those earlier photos, but here's before and afters using iPhone 15 pro in raw mode, then adjusting white balance, brightness and contrast in photoshop.
