acans showing skeletons

one acan was looking rough for a while while the other looked great and huge. not both look dead all skeletons
im not sure whats going on and how to save them
any ideas?

How long have you had them? What are your parameters, what lighting are you using, and how much flow are they in? Thanks!

Do you by chance have a peppermint shrimp or other crustaceans?

they are in low flow

i have peppermint shrimp and crabs and snails and emperor angel juvi i never see anything near them though

My guess is the peppermint shrimp. One shrimp decimated my entire acan collection. They're nocturnal. It did it in the middle of the night

but i had my shrimp and these acans for like 4 months and just now he does it?
should i take him out or put them in a box?

can they come back from skeleton?

To your first question, yes it's a definite possibility. If there's still tissue on Acans they can come back. Keep the Acans in lower flow and not in real high light. I'd definitely separate them, however you do it is up to you. I'll never have a peppermint with Acans again. If you do a search on Acans and peppermint shrimp you'll find my experience is not an isolated one. Crustaceans are very hit and miss. I've had problems through the years with crabs too. They're all scavengers and they just want food

your first issue is 0 p04. if it truly 0. second. do you feed them? most acan deaths result of improper nutrition. these arent sps corals . they need food.

stop removing PO4 (if you are) or start adding it....or both

Acans like nutrients. If nitrate or phosphate gets to low the acans were quick to show signs of stress. I wouldn't go removing your shrimp and crabs just yet.

actually i am showing po4 at .25ppm not sure why i wrote 0

i think it might be the crabs mote then the shrimp i never seen the shrimp there he never comess out of the rocks but i do see crabs on my frag rack
im going to put them in a small container and see if they come back.

also i do spot feed them and they were so big and fat growing real good then like died over night seems like

My problem with acans,, were just like yours,, it was flow related ,,, I started putting live rock flow blockers on the up current side of my acans,,, they have done a lot better since,, I am even getting babies :) I have even saved a few acans, that were on their way out,,, thats unheard of in my tank :) now when I have acans doing good in a spot,, I load that spot up with them lol ,,, then look around to see where I can create another spot :)
