I think i found a successful spawn of acans in my 20g reef tank! I was walking by my tank and saw a little white cloud come from around one of my acans. I looked around for snails that could have possibly done it and I saw nothing. I concluded the cloud must have come from the acan itself.
To support this theory I looked around the tank for clues and I found this! (Pictured below)
It has a rigid body to it and when up close it has the same tenticles as an acan and similar coloration.
I've not heard too much about acan spawning in a reef tank so I am skeptical but very hopeful!

Note I got close to it and determined its not a pest anemone of any sort

While that’s wishful thinking, I don’t think you have a spawned Acan.
There’s no way you’d see a newly formed coral that quickly.
it would take weeks or longer to grow to that size after the initial spawn.

Can we get more details? Like how many acan colonies you have, what parameters/lighting/flow you run?

Thanks for sharing

Its entirley possible its spawning at night for weeks and I've only now noticed it. I haven't looked at my acans for quite some time

Wishful thinking IMO.
IMO that baby is just something like a ball anemone.

With good husbandry and science anything A-can :D be possible.

Im not sure how I would get a ball nem. Tank was started from dry rock (no established media) all corals were removed from plugs quarentined and nothing new added for almost a quarter of a year. I will let it be and see what it develops into

I'm pulling for you. Keep us updated. Don't mind all the naysayers... they just be jealous and not dreamers like some of us... i remember 20 years ago when it was "difficult " to breed saltwater fish... just saying...

I did the same thing, cut corals off plugs, full 76 day QT with multiple dips, and I still ended up with things that got through. We’re not as good at making things sterile as we want to think we are.
it’d be neat if you were the first to have this happen, but statistically that’s not likely to be the case.
keep an eye on it over the next few days/weeks and see if there’s any changes.
good luck.

I personally ended up with a baby acan in my tank... Even though I've never kept acans! It must have been a really tiny baby i hadn't noticed on a plug, but at least now it's visible. This pic is from awhile ago, but I'd had that piece in the tank for a few weeks/months without having seen the acan. I haven't noticed that it's grown too much since I took this pic, but I'll get a better look tomorrow.

By the looks of it, that “plug” that the zoas are on used to a coral skeleton, so it’s not surprising that a piece of the original coral survived. But it’s most likely a small leftover piece of the original, rather than one that spawned.

Maybe is has grown a little.... Ignore the unhappy zoas. Just ignore them. They bring disgrace to their name.

the ones directly next to the acan are probably ticked off because the acan is stinging them trying to make space for him to grow.

You could cut the 2 apart and separate them to give them both a better chance.
