Acid Rain macro algae

Thanks. Yeah, that's what fascinated me about it. Not much more I could find about it, besides that it might live in SW Caribbean. I assume based on its love for 10k light it's a deepwater species.

And another thread about it on the UK-heavy Ultimatereef forum, written by someone with the same avatar named Alfonso. :D :D

Anyway, this is fascinating, thanks for sharing about this macro algae!

It’s a variety of frilly halimeda, the leafs will grow up to 4inch each will look stunning once fully grown.

Just at hobby level, mainly google. I suspect frilly halymenia not halimeda as I’ve said before. That’s why acid rain as it’s easier to refer to. found it as a hitchhiker on a piece of live rock last year. I’ve tried to discuss with the store for origin but they didn’t knew themselves. But google says it’s quite common in Singapore shores. Does that make sense?

I have an identification book specific to Pacific macro algae species. I will take a look and see if I can find it. If I do I will post a scientific name.

Not an easy algae to find to identify but I found a few possibilities in my pacific identification book.
Halichrysis coalescens
Halymenia stripitata
Halymenia maculata

Some additional questions:

• How big is each specimen?
• Is this algae iridescent or metallic looking? Top down view would be best to look at this.
• Can you provide a top down picture with white lighting?

I think maculara fits it right, she’s iridescent under actinic light

I’ve got some pics from wend I’ve first tried to grow it, unfortunately I’ve almost killed it the first time with too much light. But it shows the leafs shape similar to the maculata
