Some refractometer's use a solution and others use RODI to calibrate the unit. If it needs the solution make sure it comes with it, otherwise order it

So should I not need saltwater mixed up i know my hydrometre dodgy but it's saying it's right yeah
if I could save on salt that'll be great tanks taking 650grams every 2-3 weeks like I'm losing salt out of the water is it possible I get salt jumping out my sump

Or could my sump have a slow leak i can't see behind it

Thanks for all your help and time guys I look into what's been said but I still think ive got an issue with salt leaving my tank and would love to fix that to save money on salt I would love just to top up fresh rodi water and setup my ato

That's over the back of the sump over flow i clean it weekly and it build back up
There's gotta be a fair bit of salt water splashing around, or bubbles popping for it to be severe. If you identify the source, it's likely you can cover that part for free. I have a deliberately splashy sump and use some of the packing foam that gets used on so many goods these days.

Thanks very much Garth for your time ill look into minimising the bubble in the sump and the splashing i can tend to leave the filter sock a few days overflowing before removing it wich causes quiet alot of bubbles and spashing maybe i need to be more quicker at changing my socks my algaescrubber hangs on the side of the sump and splashes all day with the height water falls from. I've got fibre glass i need to make some hanging brackets to get it closer to the water then hopefully I can solve that and start using my ato feels pointless having it at the moment I might even put some foam around it to stop it getting out thanks for you time I appreciate it will update you next week when ive got the refractometer

To test salinity - i would recommend the Hanna digital Salinity Tester - super easy to use, portable and pretty accurate (when properly calibrated)
