Acro Help - Please

I hate to be the first to mention it, but since I have them I must ask. Have you checked for AEFW by basting the dying corals and seeing if anything flies off? I'm guilty of starving my tank, but acros don't die, they just look washed out. Some closeup pictures of the dying corals would really help.

Yes, I have checked. I do have red planaria in the 40 but not in the 20, but not AEFW. I have watched closely, and have never seen the planaria on the acros. They don't affect any of my zoas, acans, chalices, and montis.

Also, someone mentioned chalices not growing but I have 13 chalices in this tank and they are all growing beautifully.

Can I just unplug my GFO reactor and watch my phosphate levels or do I need to slowly lower the amount I'm using until there are no more in there?

The red planet that I had, which is the only one in the tank, is now all skeleton. I have a friend that has a couple he is going to give me though so I can keep trying to figure out what's going on. I need to find someone with a green slimmer as someone had mentioned earlier.

One other question I have, when I first started this hobby I was religiously doing water changes however since my nitrate and phosphate levels have been so low, I do one monthly. Is that something that could cause this. My understanding for the reason of water changes is for keeping parameters stable and lowering bad nutrients. Am I hurting myself by not doing more routine water changes?

Daniel... I dont do water changes... at least not religiously... maybe every few months if I cant control the nitrates or phosphates with my pellets and skimmer but that is rare.

Why are you running gfo to remove phosphates? do you think your rock may be leeching it out? how much do you feel this fish in there?

and for those that dont hink LED will grow corals.. I have living proof at my house. been 100% LED for a year and a half and the growth ive had is HUGE.

Its a blue hippo tang the size of a quarter right now, and I already have a home for it when it gets larger for those concerned. My wife wanted it. I feed him an algae sheet a day and broadcast 1 mysis cube every other day and then do a mix of a whole lot of stuff every two weeks with pumps shut down for 30 minutes. Also went ahead and unplugged the GFO for the time being. I will watch the levels.

I do think the rock was leaching it, that's probably how I got the bryopsis in there as well, but the bryopsis is all cleared up now.

Fish poop



Need more fish poop. Mine grow pretty darn good lately with my nitrates in the 20 range and phosphate below .05. If it gets above .10 my purple slimer burns tips. My alk was 8.06dKh last night. It usually is there or below. I can't grow digitata and my Monti cap growth is frightful. But other across I have are at times 1/2inch. Month.

This is what i told him yesterday. Acros need fish to survive and grow well. As many as you can get and maintain low phos/nit and of course make sure all is compatible

Fish poop factories..... I love my big tangs for this...except when I'm trying to look at my corals and hey swim by polluting the water

Just to be clear, you never see AEFW unless you blow one off. They have nothing in common with the brown flatworm except for being flat. A picture will show bite marks, but you must look close. The only other evidence that might show is egg masses near the base of the coral. Looks like a dark smudge but a closeup reveals the eggs.
