Help do these polyps look extended enough? it’s a Bali green slimer.

Yeah it’s weird here’s a pic from Saturday light was at 50% and I figured it wasn’t enough if you look at the bottom there’s slight bleaching but if you look at the pic I posted in the post it’s bleached more and idk if it’s from the light being upped on Sunday or if it’s from the light being low from before and my settings now will fix it

No where near extended enough, I doubt it needs more light, I bet it’s a flow or parameter/stability issue potentially

It could be light. Light is 8 in off the surface and it’s placed middle of the light about 10 inches under water

I don’t like LEDs for this reason, 50% can be very strong you just won’t know without a par meter - and even then - you have to have the right nutrients for the amount of light intensity, alk, etc.

I prefer 100% T5s. Once my LEDs die I’m done with them forever, I feel like they can cause more problems and just adds a level of complexity that is hard to maneuver (it is for me).
I also see some algae in the background of your pic - do you have Dino’s?

Duncan, birdsnest, acan, monti, Kenya tree, chalice. All doing great. Tank is almost 3 months old.

At 3 months old, with Dino’s, the tank could be going through some early swings and the slimer may not be liking it?
The other parameter that people may point to is the 0 phosphate.
Idk just some ideas, I’m sure other more experienced people will chime in soon

Yeah I thought 0 phosphate was weird too because of it being new and I’ve done nothing besides refuge

4 fish once a day frozen food about the size in between a dime and nickel broken up

You don't need a dedicated PAR meter. There are PAR apps for Android and iOS that are close enough for hobbyist use.


The key, OP, probably lies with the bleaching. Po4 being 0 is a problem. You're probably also hitting it with too much light. And your alk might be slightly high for the nutrients present -- though not outrageously so.

Raise your Po4 to 0.02 - 0.05, lower the lighting intensity, and monitor.

Brightwell neophos, seachem flourish phosphorous, trisodium phosphate, feed more -- there are a few different options. I prefer to dose PO4 -- I feel I have more control that way. But adding more food is a perfectly viable option.


Coral doesn't like when there isn't any phosphate. It tends to turn pale/bleach then die, zoas melt, etc.

Once acclimated, it should be fine there. How long have you had it in that position?
