Hello guys. I just bought activated carbon and will use it for the first time.

I have a sump which goes:

1. Incoming
1a. Small area(inch thick) to insert stuff. I placed filter wool
2. Protein Skimmer
2b. Another small area
3. Some live rocks/refugium
4. Return

I read some saying they place it on the incoming section. Some say on the return. So which will yield best results?

Thanks!

In a reactor would be the best situation.

Bar that, and anywhere it doesn't get crashed into so it grinds into itself creating carbon dust will work.

It really doesn't make any practical difference as the water is not forced to flow though either filter mechanism

Just in a high flow area wherever is most convenient for you.
