Add live sand

Hi I was wondering if there would be any issues if I added a bag of live sand to an established tank. No coral just fish. Would it cause problems? Would it be a benefit?

Both you'd get a tiny spike but nothing major like if it was dry

What size is your tank? I have a 180g and I added 2 cups per day until I the whole bag was added without adverse effects.

The best way is to push the sand that's in there over and then to fill the voids with the new sand. Because you don't want to bury your existing sand. I'd also space it out over a few days. Here's a good way to do it.

Its a 100 gallon. I have quite a bit of voids under rocks where my wrasse has dug out where I was going to put the sand. Good info about not burying existing sand and spread it over several days tho. Thanks

If it's to replace the sand I wouldn't he is just going to dig it out again

I don't mind if its dug out, which he did. I have such a low sand bed anyway I wanted to freshen it up. I added the whole bag (which was a freebie I had to put it to good use lol) when I did a water change. Next day I tested the water and all is good.
