Hello,
I have a question regarding trying to add clown fish for my female clown.
I had a pair of clownfish for 20 years. The male died about 6 months ago. I am wondering about getting another clownfish for the lone female. Could adding a clown work and would she be happier with a companion? She is 20 years and dominate so I am not sure if it could work or not.

*additional info on the males death and habitat. I bought the clowns when I was in high school, I kept them in a 180 gal. When I moved after high school my parents took over my tank and they are not great at keeping up with it. I recently moved back to my home town and set up a 32 gal saltwater in my home, so I am tearing apart the 180, and keeping the remaining fish (1 PJ cardinal and the female clown are all that’s left). I am not sure what exactly killed the male, but I can say my parents don’t do water changes and maintenance like they should so it was likely something to do with water quality.

sry i cannot answer your question :( but what have you been feeding them to keep them healthy for 20 years quiet the milestone

I think they are just really hardy fish lol, but we feed them Mysis shrimp, emerald entree, red and greed algae.

I have no experience with a 20yr old clown, but I would think that as long as it is small enough and plucked from a group to be guaranteed to be male (not the dominate of the group), that a new friendship/bonding should occur. Don't even need to be same species in my experience.

Did you ever add a clownfish?
