Adding a hippo tang with 3 large tangs

Hi guys I have a 6ft marine tank. Iv had the same fish for around 1 year and my tanks been 3 years old. I have 3 large tangs, fowleri, yellow and chocolate.

Just wanted to ask I was thinking to introduce a pair of clowns, a royal gramma and a baby regal tang. With the other three tangs being adults whats people's opinion on introducing a baby regal tang? Or would it be best to buy an adult? Or leave introducing the regal, I do have ich and in this tank is just a case of managing it. But these guys are all fine and seem pretty hardy. I have a UV steriliser iv just changed the build for and everyone looks healthy and happy.

About my tangs behavior, the fowleri is the boss but his very chilled. But the chocolate tang can be dick and he likes trying to be bossy. And the yellow tang is very chill also.

Consider adding some more rock for hiding places.

I have found that the regal blue tang /
Hippo Tang knows how to take care of themselves. In one case I removed a bossy regal tang as a Sailfin tang companion and added a tiny Hippo tang. That was 6 months ago. They are both about the same size now with slight aggression between them. I consider it normal alpha behavior. As long as fins don’t get damaged, I let them act out.

Would you provide a full tank shot with white light? Curious to see your aquascape.

That Fowleri tang is going to be a problem as they grow huge unless you have 300-400gallons. It will chase the blue.

But, if your going to try it….put the blue in an acclimation box so he can be seen for a few days but cannot be physically attacked.

Then release at night.

I have no issues with the chocolate or yellow.

In years to come, your going to have two big tangs in 6ft, I don’t think that’s going to end well.

Thanks for the warm welcome pal, yh it's my first time here. I didn't know there was such a big community and it's awesome that they had there own app too so it's so simple to use. Appreciate that mate yh I'll post up some pictures and a video if I can.

All back into the main tank together. I
Have done this many times but I had a larger size sump to hold them for a week or so

Okay thanks for the input, I think I'll wait atm. I have ordered one of those magnetic fish catching orb balls. Just to take away the stress of catching a fish with a net because it's nearly possible in my 6ft tank. Last time I tried was to remove my sohal tang from the tank with a net and that took like an hour. And all the fish got freaked out

When u put the fish from ur display tank in the sump did u also introduce the new fish u bought in the sump also and then move them all together into the dt. Or did u leave ur display tank fish in the sump and then move them to the display tank the same day u bought and introduced ur new tang.

Yeah. I love fowleri's but don't have an 8ft aquascape. Definitely a bucket list animal.

I had the opposite experience than most everyone’s saying here. I have a 6 foot tank with a 1.5 year old Mimic tang and a similar aged and sized Gem tang and both are kinda jerks, especially to new fish. They actually had previously killed a Whitetail Bristletooth so I was really nervous about adding a new tang. I added a baby Hippo tang and my existing tangs barely acknowledged his presence. He fit right in without any issues. I had mirrors and an acclimation box ready to use and didn't need either.

Yes I added them all in together in the same bucket watch a little then into the sump.

Yeah I try to find there hiding places and do it all at night when the lights been out for a while to catch them

With my 120G, when I went seaweed lagoon, I removed 3 tangs and drawf angel.
With a 150G Rubbermaid tub outside on lawn, I syphoned out all but 3” of water and easily caught the fish. Pumped water back into tank; the process took 30 minutes. In the past, to catch damsels, I had to remove all rock, which was a real pain, because it doesn’t go back the same.

Yes I added them all in together in the same bucket watch a little then into the sump.

I think your right, I just added the pair of clowns, gramma to the tank and night. They look like they've settled in well no stress at all.

Thanks for the help that's actually really useful way to catch them, I should have done that when I removed my sohal tang before. I tried a devider but he kept squeezing past and to tire him out tool about an hour till I finally caught him.

Rock and Acropora colonies. Especially if the Blue is small, captive bred/raised. They will use the reef structure for security as well as sleeping. I've observed this behavior with mine as well as while scuba diving.

Very interesting fish to watch as it matures.

Ive added tangs at different times. My current tank is 9 ft. and I have a regal, one gem, one purple, and a Red Sea desjardin. The regal is definitely the boss but they all get along. Ive used the mirror trick on one end of the tank when ive released the new tang and it has worked for me. It keeps the rest distracted. Im thinking about adding a yellow or a powder blue and will do the same trick.
