Hello I have just bought my first chalice the other day on the Jason Fox live sale. Never had one before and wondering where to place it and best care for a chalice. From what I understand it’s best to place in the sandbed or lower 2/3rd of your tank. What about flow and par levels, would sandbed suffice if put in a moderate flow area of my tank ? Plan to acclimate and dip like I do all my corals. It arrives tomorrow so want to be prepared.

That’s a nice coral.

I run mine bottom 1/3 in my 180 in the middle where flow and light is moderate. The only reason I could think of to not put it high is the risk of too much flow and light. It may burn the coral quick.

It may help if you could ask what lamp the vendor had it under to give you a better idea for placement

@jfox is mostly a T5 guy and a big blue light guy. Keep it low but make sure it gets some flow not rough random but gentle current. Many people dont give their chalices enough flow and that's why they stn or some like stunner grow like a cup and not a plate.

+1 to this

Pretty sure JF runs all T5 and reefbrite so I wouldn't overdo it with light.

Okay so I got the chalice in yesterday everything went great with acclimation. Today I fixed it onto a bigger rock on the sandbed gunna see how it does for a couple of weeks where I have it now. Looks great although much smaller then I imagined it was gunna be.

Yes Thankyou everyone. I always take my frag plugs off if possible, think it looks much more natural in the tank and a lot nicer. I understand sometime you can’t there’s already growth so I chip away as much of the plug as I can in that case.

I will keep updating every so often with growth. Thankyou everyone I think my next endeavor for this tank will be setting up an ATO and dosing Kalk. I’ve never dosed so a little bit nervous and overwhelmed with the idea. Have been researching as much as I can with different ideas. We’ll see how it goes.

I am not sure how to make them work with my rock work is my problem. Do they plate or encrust? I know stunners plate.

I have to many coming in from a crazy sale from asd and dont know what to do with them lol. Plus I have a rainbow from Cb.

I have lots of vertical space I need to fill like sides of main rock work rocks and some vertical tonga braches and a bridge that connects between them.

The main reason I dont know where to place is I dont know how they are going to grow out!

I read that most of them encrust but I have been looking at lot of pics on here on chalice threads and they look more like they plate!

Help! LOL
