Wow lately I have noticed alot of post about aefw. And wonder if there has been more than usual affected by this , I know I got it from someone getting out of the hobby . I dipped and still missed the eggs . Also bought corals in the summer and bamm again aefw wiped out all my sps now my tank just has frogspawn fish and an acan lol..my interest is dwindling slowly.
what do you guys think more than usual?

i hadn't heard to much about them until recently but i do agree with you it seems as though more and more people seem to be getting them. I think their are a couple of guys in my local club that battled it out with them and had no clue where they came from. How long did it take for them to wipe out your tank... sorry to bring up the bad news i was just curious.

They have been around a long time but a lot of people either didn't want to admit they had them or they truly didn't realize they had them. Very few can really pinpoint how they got them. Now that more people are coming forward and discussing them more, it seems that more folks are finding out what to look for. And anyone with an SPS dominated tank has a good chance of getting them at some point if they do a lot of trading. Just the nature of the beast. One thing that all reefers with infected tanks will tell you is..."I would have sworn I didn't have them". But by the time you notice the damage, they have laid eggs and infected multiple pieces. If they were easy to see moving around, it would be another story. But they are virtually impossible to see with the naked eye.

I think you are right though, more people are sharing their experiences. And that is a good thing. We can all learn from the experiences of others. It's not as "taboo" to bring it up these days as it was a few years ago.

What amazes me is how many people are not diping these days. Dip and inspect for eggs if you buy colonies. My advise is only buy fresh cut frags and dip. This method reduces the chances of introducing eggs into your system.

Well it was funny one day they where awesome then they started loosing color and polyp extension was minimal so I posted I heard ohh it's your parameters I checked all where great then I was told the lighting lower them so I played with that nothing then it was the flow I have 3 mp 40's and mp20 so changed that around nothing by this time we are talking 2 weeks going on 3 ..then someone said the magic word aefw I said wow what is that then I found out took a baster to the corals and bamm full sized worms took the colonies out and found the eggs ..took another week to get the QT tank setup finally 5 weeks too late the corals mostly dead and the ones that were not effected where killed by the revive dipping procedures ..lost thousands of dollars and alot of fine corals really knocks the wind out of you like being punched in the gut ..then as time went on I noticed alot of people getting out of the hobby I bought some here and there and dipped them they said no bugs in our tanks just getting out so I dipped and later found the eggs and lost those too..almost ready to throw the towel in , instead I am trying to keep the hobby alive will start to buy lps and maybe some high end zoo's since I just bought the Alpha 250 and the ATI PM 8 bulb 80 watt setup ..hope I can get my tank ready for sps in the next couple of weeks it has been empty of sps for 3 weeks or so maybe A month so I will wait one more month and buy what I can and keep them in the QT tank till then .. sorry for going on just hope someone learns from my mistakes just one reefer ...
