I’m originally from South Africa and used to go on a safari every year with my dad. Prices have gone up significantly since the good old days, but if you go to the right places you can still have an incredible experience. If I were to do it again I would go to the Kruger national park. It’s an amazing park with every kind of animal there is. Time of the year is also a factor as the heat during the summer time drives the game into cooler shaded areas and you can literally drive around all day and see nothing. I would go in the cooler months to ensure some good sitings. Visit this link and you can find out a lot of information regarding pricing, lodging, amenities etc. https://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/

Now if cost is not a barrier then the royal malewane is the premier game park in the Southern Hemisphere with 5 star lodging and service that accompanies it. This is the link here : https://www.theroyalportfolio.com/royal-malewane/overview/

This park is in the same general area as the Kruger national park. If you’re going to fly to South Africa for a safari then you may also want to include about a week in Cape Town. Cape Town is truly one of the most spectacular vacation destinations there is and you will thank me later :)

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions

thanks for the tips. I am not looking for a 5 star experience I want a more budget friendly experience, but am willing to pay what I have to to get good wildlife viewing with safe and reliable staff/guides and equipment. I want a quality operation but not a luxury tour.

i will check out the links you offered,Thanks

Went last year to Tanzania & Kenya with Tauck Tours ($$$).
Tough trip if you are up in years. You will be up in elevation here so dress for it.
We did not figuring we would be on the equator, but we managed with layers.
Great trip!

My neighbor went with OAT tours, ( overseas air travel) for a lot less but a more rugged adventure.
