OOPS!!!
Yes lets talk about the AFTERMATH of getting out the hobby.
We all know what the AFTERMATH is from getting in............. CC bills, unhappy partner, GF or wife :(
But what is to expect from getting out?
If you got out before what did happen to you............. went for the bottle, smoking, maybe purchased a Harley D or a fancy race car............
Did you had to go through rehab, the reef rehab
I have no clue and was wondering if hobbyist go out maybe they need some additional support in some sort or is that a silly thought?

I left because I was moving, and didn't have the space for the system at the new place. While I was in that interesting place I learned to change housings on blackberry's, learned to cook cornbread the "correct" way, I learned to demo and hang drywall, trim my dogs toenails, change out hard drives, hack androids, and finally, SLEEP IN.

If someone chooses to leave the hobby, I'm usually certain they're temporarily gone.

Catching grief from someone AFTER you leave is purely asinine. Even if you're not currently in the hobby, you usually retain your knowledge and could still contribute to the whole.

Are you having issues? Or are you asking for a friend?

Good question and answer! It sounds like d2 has been through it a couple times with moving to the suburbs and back in Houston. I lived there in town. Just by downtown on the Bayou there in downtown. Man, that city made me drive all over the place. The friends I knew in Houston don't live there anymore, and some have moved out of town but I don't know where.
Its tough actually, and going to see reefs was what I did but that was just temporary for me like it is for d2, knowing that I was going to get back in it helped a ton, esp. for properly planning my next build for what I knew I wanted for that next evolution of tanks... I don't think I would get out permanently, so I can't really say what I would do. I know what I buy when I don't have an active tank, and that's more equipment for the next build and I plan out the build over and over. ;):D:)

Yep, have two up now, JBJ 45 nano that I love for LPS and cool critters inside! That one was sort of an in between tank that I set up quickly but still gave myself 6 weeks break on, and a Red Sea 500. That one is fun because it's my SPS tank and I am still planning the corals and from where (a ton from Adam at BC). Man love that dudes stuff, he is very thoughtful in his approaches. Planned equipment on the Red Sea for a while. Used your recommendations for ATI on the JBJ and MH/T5 with the built in hydra 26's for UV and blue with a little white for sunrise and sunset effects then running low through the day on the Red Sea.

Yeah although I take terrible pictures. I've been reading Dennis' advice on picture taking and think I'm going to get a new Nikon now with the 105 MM Macro lens to get some good pictures. I have the Red Sea in my home office since I work from there and that tank gets so many pictures a day I need to get a better camera. Thanks for asking man! The 45 is getting over velvet, so still running fallow. I'll add some photos when I get the new camera. Taking some photography lessons over the holidays so I'll get some good pictures in then. :p

I picked up the cigs again...ditched those for a vape shortly after which I'm just gonna say in my head is better for me than smokes.

20 year habit kicked when I had my tank. Started back up after the tanks were gone for some reason. Reef tank addiction > nicotine addition I guess.

On the plus side I bought a couple guitars I've always wanted with the funds from the tank sale.

The aftermath? Joy, relief, relaxation and that nagging feeling that despite knowing it's a bad idea, you want to dive back in.

I quit 15 years ago and then about a 6 mos ago found my old Sprung/Delbeek books out in boxes. Fast forward 6 mos and I've got a 50 cube waiting to get fired up next week. Back down the rabbit hole I go... :)

I sold everything from my reef 2 months ago. I recently ventured into something I always wanted to since I was a little boy in grade school. I have set up a vivarium and am keeping Poison dart frogs. Once the tank is set up, most then once a day and feed every other. That's it! Sit back and enjoy. Prune some plants when they get out of control.
