Ai blade suspended ideas

Evening,

I have just purchased a 20 gallon long aio and I will be going with a Ai blade I don’t like the plastic mounting options. So going the diy route.

I have just ordered the following

I will be repainting them black tomorrow o match our living room.

What I’m struggling with is the cable as I need to find black cable and a way of mounting the ai blade to the cable via the m10 bolt holes.

Any ideas welcome!

Greetings. When you say the 'plastic mounting options,' do you mean the mounts that come with the light-- that are just barely off the top of the tank, or the larger L shaped ones you can buy separately that raise the lights by several inches?

Ive heard luck with HMS mounts and clips. There are also stores like Treasure corals and such that offer alternate mounting options. But this would be a hard mount and not hanging.

I think to use these, you'd need to find a way to mount the bolts into the hanging clips. A bit of DIY and patience with the right bit on a Dremel might be the answer.

Honestly, and for the sake of a cheap mount, I'd just get the elevated tank mount from AI and just let it rest on the tank brace and be done with it. This light is 3 times more powerful than needed for the tank. But I understand that shadow elimination by hanging it high enough is also a great idea.

If you can figure out the angle of the lenses, you can draw this out on paper with a protector to learn if this will adequately light the tank. 12" high tank with an elevated mount would be about 14 to 15 inches above the sand.

PS: I have the elevated L legs for a 21" Blade over a 20-gallon IM AIO tank, and as stated above, you can grow anything you want with that size tank. Personally I wouldn't go through the trouble of hanging the light, but that's just me.

Me too. Got a 21 inch blade on a 25 clear mini water box 24x16x16 and it's way more than enough power. Can reach over 300 par in the top 8 inches. Fantastic light. tested with a par meter. I have this on the tank with the elevated mount as well.

I have these over my 30g water box that I am converting from a planted fresh to macro algae tank. The mounts are stainless, so I am concerned about that.

Otherwise great mount, but also can’t do anything about the black cable.

(I also have two 150 gallon FOWLR tanks as well-- granted I'm not growing corals, but to 'view' fish, I'm finding two 12" AI Blades per tank on the L stands (my tanks have glass tops) to be just perfect.)
