Hey y'all,
As the title says, I have an AI Hydra 26 on my 60G cube. It is mounted about 6 inches off the water, as that is the highest I can get it with the current canopy. I plan on keeping mostly softies and LPS. Any settings are appreciated. Thank you!

Not unless I get rid of the canopy. It’s already on top of the canopy with a hole cut in the canopy. It it really incredibly important?

Yes, the light should be at 10 to 12 inch above the water for the best results and spread.

Hmm. I guess I could get rid of the canopy. It’s unfortunate, because I put a lot of hard work into it.

That is a bummer, but the best use of the lights is to have the higher. If you could please snap a couple of pictures of you hood as it is now. Maybe with some eye on the situation we could come up with some design fixes for the hood.

How about a floating canopy? Could you use the one you got but raised up and mounted to the wall for the floating look?

I’m not sure. I think the tank is too far away from the wall, but maybe not. I’ll get some pictures up this afternoon.

if you already have the light, then you just need to make the most of it. I think the upper part of the 60g may not get as much light as the lower part and should not be an issue with lps. you can try adding some kind of reflector inside the canopy to see if it helps.

Here ( https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/diy-floating-recessed-light-fixture-canopy.429498/ ) is my DIY Floating canopy that I am in the middle of doing now. Still haven't made up my mind how I am going to mount the lights inside it. Project for this weekend when I put it up.

Maybe this will give you some ideas. I have a rough blueprint-style design I made that is in the as well.

I also have hydra 26hds, and have a similar schedule as the one pictured above.

You might spend the time to modify the hood. As stated the spread will be awful and also salt creep on the hydras fan will be intensified. You will have better results raising it. More Even coverage and a properly functioning light. Good luck!

I use Hydra 52HD on a 45, but is 12” above water line and max it at 50%. Can’t get any simpler than this program. Just set to 17.5K temp, determine how long you want your photo period, set the midpoint to the max level, that’s it. The sun at the equator goes from sunrise to sunset from min to max to min. Maybe not linear but a slight elliptical path, but linear is good enough. No flat area in between.
