AI hydra electrical issue

I just picked up 2 used AI hydra’s and whenever I plug the one in, it shorts out the power brick. Both powerbricks work fine on the other one. Is there a way to fix this? The seller offered me a refund but If it can be fixed then I would like to go that route.
 
Step 1: Test the Fixture's Power Jack (The easiest test)
Before opening the light, you can check if the short is right at the main power input.
  1. Set your multimeter to the Continuity setting (the icon looks like a sound wave/wifi symbol) or the lowest Ohms (Ω) setting.
  2. Touch the two multimeter probes together to make sure it beeps or reads close to 0.00.
  3. Put one probe inside the barrel jack of the Hydra fixture (touching the center pin) and the other probe on the outer metal rim of the jack.
  • What it means: If your multimeter beeps or shows close to 0 Ohms, there is a direct short circuit inside the light. If it reads "OL" (Open Loop) or very high resistance, the input jack itself isn't completely shorted, and the issue is further down on the board.



Step 2: Open the Light and Test the Fan
A failed or corroded cooling fan is a massive cause of shorts in AI Hydras.
  1. Open the fixture casing and locate where the fan plugs into the main board.
  2. Unplug the fan connector from the board.
  3. Test the main board again by plugging in the power brick (with the fan left unplugged).
  • What it means: If the light on the power brick stays on now, you are in luck! It means your fan is shorted out. You just need to replace the fan, and your main light board is completely fine.



Step 3: Test the Motherboard Components


If the brick light still goes out with the fan unplugged, you have a short on the circuit board (usually caused by salt creep or a blown ceramic capacitor).
  1. Set your multimeter back to Continuity or Ohms.
  2. Look at the main board where the power jack feeds into the circuit. You will see several small, boxy, beige/brown components near the power entrance—these are surface-mount capacitors.
  3. Place one probe on each side of a capacitor.
  • What it means: Capacitors should not have continuity. If your multimeter beeps or reads 0 Ohms on both sides of a capacitor, that capacitor (or something right next to it) is completely blown and causing the short.

While there are bits and pieces of truth and real electronics troubleshooting tips in the response, it is conflated into nonsense.

You can't easily check a capacitor in circuit, and a "dead short" anywhere in the power supply circuit will likely read across the caps, which are likely just fine. Unplugging the fan may help to narrow down the search, but it is not, by itself, conclusive.

So "check for salt creep" and cleaning it is valid, but beyond that, anybody without electronics knowledge isn't going to be able to isolate the issue, let alone fix it.
