AIO BBDR 20 Gallon Nano

Alright fellas we’re at about three months now. Here’s your update. Everything is status quo. Still doing my bi-weekly changes with great results. So far no issues whatsoever. Aside from this dang anemone walking all over the place life is good!! He’s moved about four times in the last two weeks so hopefully she’ll decide on a spot. I say “She” because only a woman could be this indecisive. And beautiful!! Sorry ladies that’s a joke on my Fiancé. ANYWAYS!!! We’re only testing Alk at this point since everything else seems very stable. I’ll start the Phosphate tests again once I pick up the coral feeding. Can’t stress enough the importance of water changes. Still at half saturated Kalk in the ATO and that’s it for dosing.

pH 8.1
DKH 10.6
Salinity 1.25
Temp 89

In other news I went and did something kinda wild. Daddy won an auction for an Amazeballs Goni. One if my holy grail corals. It got delivered today and I sent it swimming a few minutes before writing this so it’s not extended yet. I also gave it a good little dip dip so it’s not happy about that at all. I’m glad that I stuck to my original plan of waiting a few months before adding corals… Patience has never been a strong point for me. Anyways!! Enjoy the photos.

Hello to all my follower watching this thread. Here’s an Amazeballs after 24 hrs in the tank. These corals have batteries I swear. Never seen anything like it! If you can ever get your hands on a piece of this take the opportunity!

PANIC!!!!

Okay so two days ago I made the mistake of a reef tank lifetime. I was mixing four gallons for my weekly water change. I pulled four gallons and added four gallons in one shot since I foresaw a busy work week. Right when I start adding the new water, I notice my anemone immediately starts inverting. All of my Gonis and torches also invert into their skeleton. Five minutes later my anemone had fully puked out whatever was in its foot. Thats not good…. Mind you, my water temp and salinity is good. No new salt bucket or anything out of the ordinary.

Needless to say the butt clench was in full effect. Literally cheeks tighter than a bull’s butt in fly season. I’m scrambling for causes so I can start fixing whatever it is because there’s undoubtedly something wrong here.

I full on panic drive to the fish store and grab 20 gallons of pre-mix so I guaranteed nothing of mine contaminated the water as I couldn’t figure out what the problem is. In the 30 minutes it took to get the water, and do my 100% water change, my acro, torch and hammer corals expelled all of their zooxanthella. I had a glorious fluorescent residue on the surface of my tank. I knew I did some serious damage here but what could it have been.

Then suddenly it hits me. I remember the night before when I started mixing, my trusty old Coralife pump’s wire split and started zapping in the bucket when I was out of the room. I caught it after I heard the zapping from the other room so who knows how long it was in there for. I pulled the pump and threw another in there to continue mixing. The old pump went in the garbage after I saw the exposed….. Copper……. Wires. So anyways stupid me didn’t realize I just blasted god knows how much copper residue into my water and doused my tank with it.

Two days later, it appears that we didn’t have any casualties, everything in the tank looks like it just got back from two tours in the northern front trenchs. I have copper test kits and poly filter on the way. I’ve been changing my Rox .08 carbon every 12 hours to get it fresh. Things are definitely better but I think I’m worried about my beloved cleanup crew and copepod population. Algae barn probably benefited from this catastrophe as I will be having to reseed this tank. My hermit crabs, the ones that are still standing, have formed a picket line in protest of my incompetence.

If you got to the end of this story, please learn from my blunder. You can do EVERYTHING right every single day. One single mistake can put you back to the stone age. Good news is I don’t think I’ll have any parasite problems anytime in the foreseeable future… Isn’t it awesome that I made this mistake days after I add a $500 frag to the tank!?!? Here’s some photos about five minutes after I added the contaminated water.

Alright we got a BIG update for all you person following this thread! We have recovered from the copper incident. I confirmed it was a copper overdose by adding a poly filter which turned bright blue indicating that I was in fact stupid. ANYWAYS everything made a full recovery and we have zero losses. All growth halted for a week or so which was indicated by a massive spike in my DKH. I didn’t change dosing amounts and now that everything is healthy again my number has gone back down to normal levels. Yay. The BIG news is that I came home for lunch today and noticed a new member of my tank. Or maybe the same member with split personalities. My Colorado Sunburst decided to double his chances at a prom date and split right down the middle!! I’m a happy fish tank dad today! We also switched over Tropic Marin Meersalz. So far I’m digging the results! Enjoy some photos!

Well I was a ReefaPalooza enjoyer this past weekend. I live right outside Orlando so I figured why not blow some money. I’m actually getting hitched in November so my cousin brought me as a bachelor party sorta gift. He got me into this hobby so we kinda roll together. Anyways it was a great time! I met some YouTube people I’ve been following over the years. I even got front row for BRA Ryan and Josh’s Q&A talk. SUPER cool stuff! Anyways the damage wasn’t bad after two full days. I got some really nice stuff which appealed to me. I snagged some photos I’ll attach in here later. So far everything is good in nano tank world! I’m working on starting phyto plankton cultures so I’ll send some updates on that later as well. Everything is just about healed up from the copper incident. The I do gold torch is starting to color back up but otherwise we’re chillin.

New additions are:
Jawbreaker mushroom
Holy grail torch
Multicolor hammer
Fathead dendro

This all for $300. Go to these events if you want some really nice stuff you guys. The vendors will hook you up with some really nice stuff! Enjoy yall!

Firm handshakes to all of my follower. Haven’t posted an update in a while and I’m sorry for that! So far everything is great with the tank. All parameters remain stable with 1 Tbsp of call per 1.7 gallons. No precipitation issues at all even with pH hovering around 8.35 in daytime. 8.2 for the binaural swing on the low end. Two gallon water changes per week (I try to do a big drinking cup per day and then whatever I have at the end of the week I do a little siphon job on the bottom for the remainder). This tank is pharmacy clean on the bottom and I love the look. Back compartments on the other hand… Lets just say it looks like a well established reef tank. Filtration system is doings its job. Salinity is by far the hardest parameter to deal with. Check it daily as I’m always concerned. It drops quick with these smaller tanks I was not expecting that. Anyways here are some updated photos. By the way I haven’t cleaned the glass in a week for these photos. She’s natural for you guys. 2% hairy armpit natural tank for y'all to enjoy.

Howdy yall!! I had a spare minute so I wanted to update yall on what’s been going on.

Absolutely nothing has been going on! No new corals no new issues. I just feed, replenish my kalk ATO once a week and take a big gulp worth of water out and a big gulp worth of water back in each day. Once every couple weeks I’ll do a little siphon of some detritus off the bottom and clean the glass but that’s about it. I do run some ROX Carbon which I change every couple weeks when I’m bored. Everything continues to be stable and I see growth on all corals. We have softies, LPS and SPS and everything seems to be growing at the same rate. This is truly a very low maintenance tank.

18 MONTH UPDATE

Crushed Reefapalooza in Orlando this year. Wife’s ticked so I might as well get my moneys worth.

Added a Banana Torch, one off Goni I ain’t never seen before, nice jawbreaker mushroom, couple decent acros and a golden hologram hammer. No issues here everything continues to run smooth as silk in this tank. Shes dialed in!

Quick update, about a week ago my Chicago Sunburst started walking all over the tank causing mayhem. Just being a real jerk. It crawled over a bunch of corals and then up the back wall almost into a power head, then sat at the water level for two full days getting beamed by my lights. I decided to pull him off and throw him in a floating Tupperware to avoid any issues while I’m away at work. I figured maybe it was getting ready to split as they typically do weird stuff before they do.

Well I was right because after spending two days in the cup, he split. I was watching hockey last night and something told me to go check the tank. I looked in and the anemone was in the process of splitting. Super cool to catch it live and natural. Now there is two and today they’re almost all the way healed up.

Man that looks amazing. Seem to have great taste in that JB shroom looks pretty wild and that bright goni is wicked. Looks like you got a great haul at RAP this year. Are you going to the show coming up?

Thanks homie! Yea I would love to go to another event but I’m tapped out on corals this year. I’m going to roll with what I have for now and grow some of this stuff out. In the last week since I added diffusers, my colors have popped! Everything is more extended and the JB shroom is the size of the entire basket now. I’ll send some photos later when my lights kick on. Diffusers are game changers.

Those are some beautiful looking corals, without a doubt.
