My tank has been running 3 1/2 years with limited success with soft corals and zero success at any attempt at hard coral. My soon to be exwife has refused to stop using air fresheners. I am already planning a teardown due to Mojano infestation and a flat worms infestation and a Mantis.

My question is: Is the air freshener contamination leached into the aquascape? I really don't want to replace and rebuild the rock work. I will be replacing all sand.

I doubt that's your problem. I would be more concerned about cleaning sprays, etc. I'm no expert, but could it be a flow problem? I would try a Duncan. I have 2 and they seem pretty indestructible.

Is the air freshener being sprayed on, near, in the tank?

As for SPS, they are harder to keep, need more stability, tons more flow, and tighter control on nutrients. Softies and LPS are quite a bit more tolerant.

She has at least a dozen of various types throughout the house. Some spray some heat. 2 that spray are within 10 feet. Also there is/has been what looks like an oil slick above the return pump.

Man, sorry to hear this. I don't know if I go overboard or not but I will not let ANYTHING be sprayed in the room with the tank. Unless it's airborne I cannot imagine that being the issue. What are your parameters and lighting?

Do you run carbon? I’ve found air fresheners to never cause problems , my wife makes candles right next to my tank / additionally I’ve always had fresheners in every room do you have an air purifier ? Or a window you can open ?

I’m not seeing anything that screams to me why you are experiencing issues , I would be checking for stray voltage, contaminants, maybe there are some rusty nails ect

I recently (9 months) started running a skimmer and a fleece roller off the main return last month. I will start running carbon.
