air line from skimmer to outside

Went 3/4 inch on the air line outside , was going to reduce it at the very end . I believe that should do it . Should I go larger on the outside line ?

How far/long of a line?

What’s hose ID size at skimmer?

Edit: Google says 5/16. You should be plenty good with 3/4” line unless insanely long run.

It would depend on the size/style of the skimmer, but unless your tank is ~250+ gallons, 3/4” tubing will suffice!

Thanks for the info , it’s 315 in the tank 75 in the sump do 390 less rock and sand .. I’m betting I’m close to 330-340 . My OCD will kick in and we’ll measure what we put in to be exact . I’m rolling with the 3/4 inch . Should be fine

Good to know , I’m about three miles from Mexico . We’re sub tropical climate here . It can get 110 for a couple months non stop , but winter is mild 40-60’s .

Curious , I am thinking of a whole home air exchanger for the CO2 . Is you idea similar to that ?

That would be easier and ideal

Mines a reactor/essentially a downdraft skimmer style . I believe the oxygenation will be a huge plus also!

The main 4” body will have an airline going through it to a 12” Alita Airstone. Using an Alita 80SA vacuum air pump pulling outside air @ 80LPM.

Here’s my outside skimmer line set up which will be tying into to supply air to the Alita vacuum pump (doing that work this weekend hopefully)

Outside inlet points downward to not collect in water. There’s a sponge filter in the inlet also. Keeps bugs etc out. 1” pvc main line.

Runs inside basement down wall to a ball valve/Shut off needed incase of neighbors spraying insecticides/pesticides

Branches of 1” line at tee fitting to 1/2. Flows through 10” RO canister full of carbon. Straight down from tee is another ball valve. Incase moisture gets into line it should collect at the drop leg there. I open ball valve once a week to drain any moisture built up. 95% of the time no moisture but once/twice have had a bit that drains out.

Now that’s thought through . Very similar to what I’m going to do . Been texting with my contractor , going with a 1inch air line . I think it’ll run more like 50 ft , going to have it come out of the soffit of my roof . End capped with this :

The run through a BRS carbon canister then CO2 scrubber then to the skimmer .

I have to do carbon , I spray for bugs . The city also sprays a couple of times a year for mosquitos because of the Zika Virus .

going with a 1inch air line

3/4” rigid sch.40 PVC would also work here!

for tubing/hose, stepping up to 1” ID would be ideal, as the associated barbed fittings are closer to 3/4” ID!

I’d still shut off fresh air anytime you’re spraying for a few hours. I had some of my acros start to STN following days after neighbors had their yard commercially sprayed. Can’t prove that’s what it was from but better safe than sorry! Luckily they all rebounded pretty quick.

Here’s how I plumbed mine. It’s 1/2”. There’s some coarse filter media in the inlet. I’m in Florida and have no temp issues. Through a co2 scrubber and prior to carbon dosing, pH high 8.4. So far, no ill effects from pest control chemicals.
