I'm using a PennPlax 1.2 l/min air pump with a Mame skimmer in my tank. The mame has an IV adjuster on the silicone airline tubing just after the outlet of the pump. The instructions for the skimmer say to put it there and start with it impeding the airflow 100% and then back it off until the bubbles in the skimmer reach a certain height. My question is, will hampering or even shutting off airflow from the pump blow its diaphragm or damage the air pump?

Thanks.

I don't know that skimmer, any pics?
Quickly stooping the air flow is not a problem. Keeping it closed for long periods might be.
