Air pump head pressure?

I am looking to run an air pump placed outside to actively push fresh air into my skimmer intake. The plan is the cover the pump and have it set under my deck outside and then run an air line about 30 feet through the basement joists to the basement sump.

I know all about friction head loss with water pumps, but is that a thing with air pumps too?

Here is the pump I am looking at, does anyone have any expertise with outdoor pond air pumps to tell me if this will fit the bill? Feel free to suggest other manufacturers - I know nothing about outdoor / pond equipment.

Interesting ideal!

This is likely going to take an in-line valve to tune in air flow properly, but ought to work once you do!

These bigger air pumps are honestly pretty impressive! I had a 35w unit in a tool shed with 35-40ft of 3/8”ID tubing plumbed from it to my freshwater displays… it lasted at least six years in this application!

Keep in mind, these air pumps are extremely loud! You will definitely also want a sound insulating box around it in its remote mounting location! (They also run hot!)

To answer your question; yes, frictional flow loss of air volume through tubing is a thing, but it isn’t nearly as appreciable with air moving (in this application) because air itself is so much thinner than water!

Air pump head loss from pushing air underwater is also a factor; and is also a non-issue with these higher pressure air pumps, and your low water height application!
