Algae 411: Where do you go for algae info?

There are so many types of algae and macroalgae. To understand the species, the requirements (such as flow, lighting, eradication methods, and more), possible tank mates, and whether they are a pest, it is important to be able to identify the algae. Whether it is macroalgae for sale or algae that just randomly shows up in your tank, it is helpful to have somewhere to go for algae information. Some people use online resources such as Reef2Reef, books, input from the local fish store, or a combination of all of these and more. Please tell us where you go for algae info in the related thread!

I google, which often leads me here. However, I'm cautious about taking advice from anybody but the leaders with 5,000+ posts.

I like this book a lot so it's usually part of the solution:

in 24 hours. send me the jobs please, in chat. the wrecked tanks, send me a message so we can collect more of these. we will customize ways to sustain the fix in your tank, each tank has different causatives. I don't need you to buy a microscope, nor supply nitrate and phosphate guesstimate levels off API kits in order to earn that fixed condition.

best for nano reefs, large tankers have too much water to deal with. send 'em

answering the thread: when I encounter an algae problem, I sift through the rolls of fixes on file, find a comparative one, and run what we did. the reference logs are here on r2r or over on nano-reef.com

that's not my tank above, my tank doesn't have an algae issue because it's not permitted to

that's a tank fixed for someone else.

you will be supplied with info that worked for other people, which is key to success. 99% of algae remediation we read about online is what worked once for someone, then 40 people try and copy all those variables in their home. that doesn't work well, hence the massive ongoing algae issues with no real path to fix them per the nuisance algae forum here.

applying what works for others is a real 1%'ers way.

If I am just looking for information about macroalgae I just google it. If it’s about nasty algae in my reef I rely mostly on forums
