So I’m sure if you are reading this you have seen her posts.

65 gallon
Non sump
Hob filter
Protein skimmer

added corals and now we have to keep the lights on. Getting an algae bloom and do not know if it’s Dino’s or diatoms. Power head and heater are covered. Filter is starting to get covered. Rocks are starting to get covered.

it’s a brownish red.

I know phosphates are high and I am combating them now. We do not have room on the tank to run a fuge as the skimmer and hob take up 60% of the back of the tank.
What is an east way to tell the algae apart.

Nick,

The first step for some help is a couple of white light photos. That might be enough for ID. If you know phosphates are high then more likely cyano as dinos usually prefer very low phosphate. There are several people on here that can give you a good ID once they have enough info. Photos are first step.

Can you get a shot of it on the sandbed? It looks to me like diatoms from what I can see but I'm sure others will chime in.

Hopefully someone else will chime in. I'm a little confused. What I think I see on the rocks looks like diatoms but it doesn't make sense for diatoms to be on your return chute.
