I’ve been battling with this algae for a while now. At first I thought it was for sure your typical green hair algae but then after trying just normal manual removal and water changes and having no success I started doing more research. I thought it could be turf algae or maybe some form of bryopsis as some have told me, but after dosing fluconazole and seeing no effect I’m wondering it may be something different. If anyone can get a positive ID on this and if so what would you suggest to do to get rid of it? At the point it’s at right now it’s super grown out and pretty much taken over everything. I decided not to touch it after dosing the fluconazole and letting the tank be for the 3-4 weeks that fluconazole is supposed to take. Just wondering what steps anyone would take next? How long did you run the fluconazole treatment? Did you take the collection cup off skimmer?
It ran 3 weeks with the skimmer off for the first 3 days. Did the 30% water change after 3 weeks but saw no effect on the algae, it actually grew more during the treatment.

Here’s some better photos. I’ve got maybe 15 trochus snails. 8 blue legged hermits. A pincushion urchin. And 4 turbo snails. All of which don’t touch the algae even when I do clean most of it off the rock, they won’t even go for the smaller bits that I can’t get to, which eventually start to take over again and the cycle continues. I used to have a tomini tang that died a few months ago that also did not touch it.

That's odd. It was very effective on the bryopsis in my tank. It even took care of the dictyota.

Yeah I’ve heard nothing but really good things about fluconazole so was pretty hopeful when I dosed it. I’m hesitant to dose it again because I’ve heard dosing it with no effect can make the algae even more resistant to it the next time. Not sure I’d want to do a double dose and potentially put my corals at more risk.
