okay .... Well....

i ran out of top off water and use some topoff water from a local source (not where i usually get it) and im guessing it must have some serious excess in it....used it for a week or so ...

so now i am left with some massive algae... its covering everything... and even my zoas/palys so many of them arent really opening... i blow it off and it comes back the next day...

i realize i need to do some major water changes which i will be doing on friday, saturday and prob. monday.. to try to help and get it knocked out.

luckily i havent had much algae issues a lil hair algae in the past, but thats it... so i dont have any experience with this stuff....

so i dont know what this algae is.... can someone tell me what the heck this stuff is ??????

(all water params. are checking out fine, guessing the algae is using it all up so i am getting good readings)

yeah i was wondering if it was too. the tank was transfered from a 90 gallon that was a few years old and we put everything in the 120 and its been up for about 7-8 mths. i havent had any problems til this last week.

okay so if it is Dinos ... should i remove my fish? i have some pricey fish (well for me anyways) and would hate for them to die from the dinos.
i have a onyx pair, lineatus, mystery and mccoskers...

Ive had it 2 times over the yrs and never lost a fish from it. It can be a hard battle to get rid of but it can be done just read Randy's article thats how I got rid of it.

well i guess it would appear that i do have dinoflagellates and they are getting quite a bit worse. i finally am seeing snails dieing and have strings of dinos upwards of 6-7 inches. its quite a sight. lets just say i hope no one ever has to deal with these things. it is very upsetting to see something youve worked so hard on have something like this going on.
i am in the process of trying some methods to get rid of them but realize that it may be a losing battle, but im trying to be possitive. :)
i might start a thread on the dino battle to document everything in case this works or in case i do something terrible and it doesnt lol. maybe someone else who might deal with this in the future can have some ideas of what may work or what may not.
so ready or not the treatments have begun and will continue for the next couple weeks.
