I’m curious if anyone has placed their scrubber outside the stand of their aquarium? I don’t have enough room in my sump area so I’m looking at placing it outside the stand.

I'm researching scrubbers for a new build. Which scrubber are you looking at? I haven't seen a sealed unit that could be plumbed in and out but I've just started researching. I have no affiliation with the company but Santimonica Filtration makes a floating unit that uses an air pump called surf 2. Pics from the vendors web page

I’ve never used one but I believe Foursquare Aquatics were designed for external placement too.
I think I’d be too nervous to mount one to where if it leaked the water would not be contained in the tank/sump.

I seem to remember @Turbo's Aquatics can be plumbed externally, let's ask him.

Yup I've had several people do this. The issue is that you have to ensure that your drains are sealed since you are not over a sump. On top of that, you have to account for Murphy and plan that at some point, water is going to get out of the unit. This will generally happen when you are on vacation for 2 weeks, and it will definitely happen if you fully automate your system so that no one needs to babysit the tank.

So basically, having some kind of drip-tray that routes escaped water back to the sump.

Aside from that, court danger if you must I suppose!

I actually ordered the icecap pro external scrubber, it’s not the most appealing but I put mine on a stand next to the tank and went through the side of my stand, with 2 holes and plumbed it that way.
